as you are all aware the current extra side ERA kit on the t90m makes it insanely OP literally just absorbing APFSDS round esp at a angle a fix to this would be changing it to a more realistic ERA that’s being used more often on t90m/mbts now. And with relikt bags irl just falling off as they are only being held by straps
with new patents for t90m and all other vehicles are now being made with 4s24 ERA as seen here in another patent
4s24 ERA is a far more balanced option for t90m it provides around 500-800mm of chemical protection and will still make it so you can survive hits against HEAT weapons to the hull many t90m/t72s have switched to 4s24 now irl
I have had that happen on Abrams, leopard hulls as well, it is mostly a bug with the game engine doing a full ricochet without affecting the hit region or accounting for its thickness
you might have hit a random af plate with that +80° making the shell ricochet into the void
yeah the sides are the worst esp for the t90m the relikt ERA in game is more designed for KE rounds then HEAT like the 4s24 they are all apart of the same relikt family but 4s24 is designed for thin armoured vehicles like the bmps because normal ERA is gonna blow chunks out of the thin armour of the bmp when it explodes and s424 is more effective at stopping tandem warheads and newer HEAT rounds then relikt that’s why most never russian mbts are swapping out for 4s24
Relikt and K5 need alot of angling to achieve their effect, on the sides they should provide extremely little protection against KE, should only defend against autocannons.
The side ERA doesn’t have enough protection to absorb APFSDS from anything other than small caliber guns.
Changing the ERA will change nothing because the issue you’re concerned about doesn’t exist to begin with.
If you’re bouncing rounds it’s because of hitting thick horizontal armor, overlapping plates, and/or server frequency causing a moving target to vibrate the round into an overlapping plate if shot close enough to one.
Either way, the solution is to not hit horizontal armor or near overlapping plates.
I get that Gaijin has stated the Russian ERA is designed to stop KE while NATO/Western ERA is meant for CE munitions. But why does Russian ERA have better protection against CE than any and all other NATO/Western ERA modules?
that is it’s secondary effect on APFSDS, the outer ERA plates movement causes the rod to yaw before it impacts the back plate, just 2* of yaw costs about 6% pen and increases dramatically as the amount of yaw dose. that yaw is increased as it impacts the denser back plate, then the inner armour.
So creating “wobble” isn’t un-realistic.
Whether the amount of wobble in game is realistic, or whether it would be enough to prevent penetration is another issue.
Asymmetric explosive thickness that causes the ERA plate plate to rotate as it separates.
Well, the French ERA actually works the same as Kontakt 5, it’s just that the developers aren’t interested in fixing the game. They don’t want the AMX-30B2 Brenus to become overpowered, so they prefer to leave it with all its bugs.
it makes more sense realistically to change what type the side ERA is all new t90m models are coming with 4s24 now because tank fights are more rare then running into a AT team and if your side hull is exposed to a enemy tank you are already screwed HEAT ammunition is a much more relevant threat to tanks esp in urban combat which all russian mbts are fighting in
