No it isn’t.
Heavy tank isn’t just it’s armor, just like a light tank isn’t just it’s mobility.
T58 being at 8.7 isn’t reasonable at all.

T1E1 is a 5.3 heavy tank with little to no armour but I’d say it’s one of the best 5.3s.
I think the 76 one is better due to not having a first stage, having a better reload (5.9s compared to 7.5s), and has a stabilizer. It’s also a lower BR so it doesn’t have to face tougher opponents, and gets to face 4.3s.
But the 90mm one is pretty nice too.
Yeah uptiers were quite difficult from what I remember, however the 90mm is amazing if it pens and you still have the excellent reverse gear to back off. Maybe one day I’ll go back to start spading the low tier US vehicles like the T1E1. But the point mainly is that heavies can be good without excellent armor indeed.
It’s obvious you’ve never played Italy.
Most of the time, to destroy a tank you have to fake it and hit it from the side. I wonder what you do when you’re playing with an M15/42, M14/41, M13/40 and you find yourself facing an M4A3 (105), a vehicle completely impenetrable by its frontal armor despite not being a heavy tank, but gaijin refuses to lower the BR of the Italian M15/42, M14/41, and M13/40 tanks.
Instead of complaining, you should learn to flank the enemy. If it works for Italian players, it works for all other players too.
EDIT: Fixed typo
Honestly, I’m all for the T58 going up to 9.0 if they fix its M103 hull armour for LOS (which has been underperforming for like 12 years straight since Steel Generals) and also some areas of the turret (especially the Locking Nut ring around the gun and turret sides + roof).
As well as maybe adding compatibility to use the T30’s HE and APCBC 155mm shells.
This thing when on the move is pretty ass, but as soon as it sit on an objective point with cover then suddenly it’s easily a 10.0 in terms of defensive. Had a partial uptired to 11.0 game the other day one T58 having 6 kills just sitting on C the entire match, I was sitting on B I could hear it doesn’'t kill everything in one-shot but 2-3, was killing things at least 2-3br higher and they have no answer against it at all. Was really nice seeing a 8.7 sitting on top of the score card on 11.0 with 6-0 bro
If they add HE then this could be the ultimate bane of infantry. Though I have a theory that they will not allow it in that gamemode anyway.
~200m - ~300m is the average engagement distance from my experience.
Even then, like you said, it doesn’t really change much.
You can use other shells (especially HEAT shells) and it would go straight through the T-62.
The only thing its armour is good at stopping is autocannon spam, AP with no cap from things like the Surbaisse, and APHE shells from full uptiered T32s. It’s good compared to NATO MBTs like the Leopards, OF-40s, and AMX-30s (don’t get me wrong), but it’s nothing crazy.

Shot Mk.3 isn’t even that good of an APDS, and the APDS at 7.7 are practically non-existent apart from things like the Conqueror’s:

T54E2’s:

And M47 105mm in Italy:

I’ve actually chosen one the weakest APDS at 7.7 lmao.

T58 can kill everything just by shooting tracks. For some reason. HESH now works better if hits tracks, and not flat thin armor at good angle. What a joke of a game this become
You know, several days ago i tried running my Centy AVRE, and went to pew pew to arcade. I didnt pen IS-6s hull and turret three times before i decided to hil the track. What a joke :/
Flagged by comunity? they are censuring this now???
centurions angle pen and shatter may be poor but the rate of fire and gun handling more than compensate, something that makes the conqueror obsolete and the T54 and patton
L7 105mm undertiering is a seperate issue ngl (yes i know thats on a patton 2. compression)
actually you missed one, the one id argue is the maybe strongest and most reliable despite the stat sheet

However this is more from being on a goated platform
Well your original argument was that I chose the most powerful APDS
In which case I’d still say I chose the weakest APDS.
But if we’re now talking about how feasible each APDS shell is when we take into account reload rate and gun handling then of course things can change.
I’d rather have the 105mm L7 gun on my Conqueror…
I would agree with you here but the FOX is 8.0 now lmao
Indeed.
scimitar. Which now all my correction reports have been accepted and actioned on (other than a missing 4mph of speed) its often better than fox. actually deserving of 7.7 now (fox should be back there too, other nations getting skill gapped is not an excuse for BR jumps)
I forgot about the Scimitar damn.
I remember it being objectively worse than the Fox so that’s probably why I forgot about it.
The gun handling nerf on the Fox and Scimitar is also kinda unfortunate for them
the traverse nerf is why fox should be back to 7.7, it was moved up while still having 60 degrees per second.
now scimitar is only worse in depression and top speed. its as armoured (better often) and more agile
