Hello everyone and welcome to this new suggestion.

Today I’m presenting a new T47-class ship for the French tech tree: the Cassard (D623).

The T47 class is a class of French destroyers designed after World War II to replace the French fleet, which had been decimated by the conflict. This class is characterized by modern armament and the presence of technologies that emerged and proved their worth during the war (surveillance radar, radar). This class is particularly modular, with many ships being converted during their operational careers into anti-aircraft, anti-submarine, or command vessels.

The third ship of the T47 class, the Cassard, was laid down in 1951 and commissioned in 1956. The Surcouf was the second of the three T47-class ships to be converted into a command ship (the first being the Surcouf, the first ship of the class, and the third being the Chevalier Paul, the sixth ship of the class). The Cassard was based in Toulon for most of its operational career, even briefly commanding the Mediterranean fleet. It was decommissioned in 1974 and kept in reserve until 1976. Unlike the vast majority of ships of that era, however, it was not destroyed during a live-fire exercise at sea but instead served as a breakwater before being sent to Spain for scrapping.

The ship is named in honor of Jacques Cassard, a 17th and 18th-century French naval officer and cousin of Surcouf. A privateer captain, he escorted French ships from the Antilles to the English Channel and the Mediterranean. His name was used on several occasions to name French warships.

In the game, the Cassard will be a particularly valuable addition for France, providing a ship with strong combat capabilities that can attack and defend against all types of targets. Moreover, its version as a command ship offers it a certain originality compared to the rest of the class, thus making it a unique ship in the game.

A +1 from me! It would be nice to have multiple variants of the T47 in-game, considering there’s enough to have a couple premiums and a few in the TT!
