T-80UD/BE (T-80UD 478DU-1) Performance & Inaccuracies

The engine doesn’t create reverse speed, the transmission does…

When Pakistan purchased 6TD-II engines from Ukraine for their Al-Khalid fleet, they also introduced a new transmission for the vehicle, this would also almost be guaranteed for the T-80UD/DU-1 if engine upgrades did take place for said engine.

Information on engine upgrades are scarce, I have vague primary sources referring to the 6TD-II engine but this wouldn’t be enough for a bug report hence why I haven’t made a report for it quite yet.

Allegedly the Buran-Catherine-E thermal imager, if I recall the first initial 15 batches didn’t come with thermals and Pakistan threatened to cancel the order for the 320 total purchased T-80UDs and Ukraine began production of essential parts for this, this is how we ended up with the welded turret also shared with the T-84.

The lack of a IR spotlight usually does also hint to the feature of thermal sights, how it works and all specifically on T-80UD/DU-1s/BEs delivered to Pakistan is still a mystery to me but I’m 90% sure the vast majority do feature them as it was one military requirement for Pakistan.

The TVD gets installed in tandem to the gunner’s day sight.
Afaik it doesn’t replace the nvd sight.

Have they said anything about any of this being corrected?

I dont think anything will change. There’s hundreds of reports about chinese vehicles and none of them have been implemented.

im still seeing the T-80UD being called the 478BE in matches…
they didnt even change the name

There is one thing that continues to bother me with the T-80UD, both the Pakistani and the Russian one, and that is that everywhere you can look the T-80UD has better armor on both the turret and hull than the T-80U, and only the 1989 T-80U would have equal armor. In fact according to this image the T-80UD would have the armor of the 1986 T-80U, which should still be better armor than the base model T-80U.

T-80UD has worse armour in game

This tank need fix。

Yes, I read that comment below, but there are also other comments explaining that the T-80UD had more modern armor than the previous T-80U (the one in the game). So even though it has the armor that is in the game, it should be better than that of the T-80U in the game.

``The original 1985 variant is shown up there under T-80U, and the T-80U “1996” (also technically 1997, which is what I’ve considered it to be) was used on the T-80UD. The lower portion showing that of the T-80UD is incorrectly named as such as well as T-80U 1989.

The T-80UD was the first hull to utilize a slight space with NERA elements in 1987, and that was because of the new engine. Due to the implementation of the 6TD[F] engine, there had to be a slight redesign of the lower hull. The LFP of the vehicle itself was thus adjusted, and it caused a slight irregularity in the hull’s array. I’m personally not too sure what design influences were given to cause that gap, or why elements were changed due to that, but I do know that the engine itself is the reason for the difference.
This is NOT present on 1987 T-80Us, as they only integrate the 1987 T-80UD turret and not the hull.

As for the 1983-1985 hulls, those were standard. Starting in 1990 there were different patterns of hulls made to effectively utilize new materials. New production models were released alongside the T-72 '1990 (precursor to T-90) and the T-90 itself.´´

PS: The comment mentions the dates of the T-80s as 1996 and 1997, but I think that is an error in the comment. I imagine that it refers to the T-80s from 1986 and 1987.

compared to soviet counterpart this thing is seriously undertiered if you compared it to T-80B the imbalance is very clear. Kontakt-5 Era, Gen 2 thermal, Commander sight gun control, T-80U series armour

+1, its armour and thermal sight doesnt equal to T-80B at all which only have T-80B series armour and kontakt-1 era

The T-80UD/DU-1 in-game currently has the same armour profile as the T-80UD, the T-80UD itself has inferior protection when compared to the T-80U. It also has the same reverse speed as the T-64BV, this is very detrimental at 10.7 as retreating is almost impossible unless you want to expose your rear side.

So no, it doesn’t have T-80U level of protection

but it is still superior to T-80B in armour layout, era and thermal it is only inferior at reversing

It has a much worse forward speed

i never denied the reverse speed

Both bug reports for the tank gun designation for the T-80UD/DU-1 (BE) were closed with the same-ish bland answer, I honestly give up with Gaijin and any improvements at this point. They introduce entirely ahistorical vehicles, are surprised it’s incorrect and expect you to somehow manage to find information on vehicles currently in service or which just entered service.

I’m just more curious on what source they used to come to the conclusion that the T-80UD/DU-1 ever used the 2A46M-1, it would’ve used the Ukrainian made KBA3 tank gun instead (prior to modernisation, which both of my secondary sources prove). It’s just unfortunate that they hold sources in which they use for vehicle modelling close to them and refuse to publicise them, this makes disproving Gaijin pretty difficult at times (looking at you J-11A).

It’s pretty apparent that as events and battle passes continue, the more C&P they become. This shouldn’t be the case however, unlike games like DCS, modelling vehicles in-game such be significantly easier and especially aircraft, but with the current schedule Gaijin is aiming for these things become drastically rushed and prematurely released.

So what are you planing to do now?

Nothing, I don’t really feel like wasting time on a issue which clearly won’t be resolved. The T-80UD/DU-1 could’ve potentially been an amazing vehicle to end the year with but it was a massive disappointment.

I won’t be going back and forth with people who refuse to go through the sources I’ve put up, their argument was that the primary sources I’ve provided don’t clearly state that all T-80UDs in Pakistani service were fitted with the 125mm HIT Tank Gun but if they actually looked at the secondary sources I’ve provided they would’ve seen the part which clearly states that Ukraine shipped said T-80UDs originally with their domestic KBA3 tank gun, not the 2A46M-1.

I’m just happy people at least acknowledged this issue on forums, most of us just want unique or semi-unique event vehicles but Gaijin would prefer to pump out more garbage and try to appease the community.

So I’m probably going to end up taking a large break from the game until something changes at least
