This topic is specific for AB battles. RB battles may have some factors that make USSR more favorable to play.
In AB, all tanks are boosted greatly via horsepowers. That means in general they are very fast, and top speed will have a bigger impact than acceleration. The Russian T-55/T-62 barely have better top speed than the M48/M60 Patton, topping out at about 55kph. The XM803 also at 8.7, is superior to the T-62 in almost every single way.
Russian tanks also have poor survival ability due to how the game works; in fact, the spaced light tanks have the best chance surviving (think of TAM). It doesn’t help that Russian gun breeches, being square shaped, tend to be way bigger than the NATO counterpart (if you see T-55s equipped with L7 you’ll know what I’m talking about)
They have poor reload times, and stands no chance against NATO tanks when it comes to a open duel, something Russian tanks are forced to (see below paragraph).
They have very poor gun depression, I can’t count all the times where my gun cannot depress too much, and as a result I died. These were of the T-62, which has good gun depression for a Russian tank (-6)
The 105mm DM23. and DM33 is superior to the 3BM4 (115mm). Oh well, at least 3BM4 is free for the Object 435 and T-62 (well it saves money).
There is the fact that a lot of players (people tend to play what’s powerful) play western tanks too.
The only good tanks seem to be T-55AM-1 (premium) and the missile oddities.
Yeah it’s really bad. All the shrinking in size makes it less capable than even the T-55A. Can’t do popshots because the tank is too short, and cannot survive a shot. Ah yeah it has one niche which is the 120mm armor, which makes it somewhat resistant to T-54 1947’s APHE at long range (does anyone ever purely use the BR-412D?)
The T-55AMD is probably the best T-55 variants at 8.7, you can deny helicopter ATGMS by just looking at their direction, you can also drive forward and disrespect the rocket rats like the ush405 and raketepoopsautomate or any ATGM carrier and watch them wasting ammo as you get closer and closer lol
Yes, it can even stop slow lobbing 152mm APHE in long range, but you will still catch the splash damage, mostly nothing major like machine gun damage or barrel turning yellow.
I dunno, in GRB I had a blast with the 435, it’s quite good. I don’t play arcade, but I don’t see how the playstyle would be different there considering the 435 has better mobility than the T-62 (as well as a rangefinder and 14.5mm HMG)
I will agree 435 in GRB is great. However T-62 doesnt deserve 8.7, at GRB for sure, it’s by some things worse than T-55A (worse reload, speed, armor, lack of heavy machine gun), IMO should be 8.3
It was tiered 8.3 back then. The T-62 was a beast in 2018 before the light tanks craze.
I’d say both tanks are bad tbh. Survival in APFSDS era is not about armor but speed and crew placement, which the T-62 happen to suffer in. Well at least the 435 is faster.
Fair enough. The T-62 needs to be downtiered to 8.3 just like it was back then. It can’t compete with all these light tanks like TAM (TAM has way better survivality than the T-62)
That’s the compression issue, though. At 8.3 I feel it would be much better than something like the M48A2C but at 8.7 it’s worse than something like the T-55AMD and slightly worse than the T-55M.
T-62? the T-55M has access to one of the best APFSDS in that br, feels like its not even close, the T-55M completely outclassed the T-62 in terms of firepower and having a much better FCS. I don’t even want to trade fire with it when playing the object 279.
8.7 is a funny spot for compression. There’s a pretty wide gap between the strongest and weakest 8.7 MBTs, primarily along the lines of which tanks have LRFs and which don’t. Things like the T-62/Obj 435/Chieftains/M60 RISE have worse firepower and/or mobility compared to the better 8.7s, all for armor which is almost completely irrelevant in the current meta. The only 8.7 MBTs with any level of useful armor are the T-55AM1 (And AMD), which are also better in mobility and have LRFs.
Not saying they need to be 8.3, it’s just another instance of compression.
And just go up so slightly .3 then the firepower is night and day difference lol T-62M1 3BM28 possibly performing better than the one being used on the first Abrams which is a 10.3 (soon to be 10.7), then we have the T-69IIG with comparable apfsds and M60TTS also uses the same ammunition as the first Abrams, now we can see that the T-55AM/AMD firepower is in no way comparable to everything .3 above except for the ability to fire ATGM. German Leopard A1A1 also has sub-200mm angle pen ammunition, Chieftain MK10 also firing one of the best ammunition in its respective br
