T-55AMD-1 ammo type

Hello all,

I’ve recently unlocked the T-55AMD-1 and was wondering what ammo type to use. The dart is alright, but it gets frustrating to use due to its inability to easily one shot lightly armoured vehicles with spaced crew. Should I use the HEAT? APHE? Or even the ATGMs? Thank you for reading.

I would ignore the ATGM, it isnt a bad missile but the travel time and guidance will always mean that a conventional round is better. The APHE is a solid round, and you will find that there are many situations where it is very useful, so it can be worth carrying a few rounds. The HE is again very useful in certain circumstances, because of the way overpressure works these days you will find it instakills anything open topped even with near misses, and can kill many other MBT’s if you are lucky with cupola shots or inside-road wheel shots. The Heat-FS also has its uses, but you will find any opportunity to overpressure an enemy, the HE will do better, and the Dart will pen anything you will need to with well placed shots, that combined with the unreliable nature of the post pen on Heat-fs and the fact that things like trees and fences will make it unusable, i wouldnt bother carrying any. Overall, i would carry mainly the Dart, with a few APHE and a few HE rounds alongside. Carrying 19 shells total will mean that only the front rack is filled, so maybe 15 darts, 2 APHE and 2 HE, or 13 Darts, 3 APHE and 3 HE.

APHE for close range engagements and maps, very effective against lightly armored MBTs like the Leopard 1, AMX30, and OF40. Against Patton and Chieftain tanks, APHE is still effective but you’re going to have to aim for weakspots like the LFP, drivers viewport, cupolas, and turret rings. If you’re worried about the risk of a non-pen, use APFSDS.

But with the lack of an HE fillers, you’re going to have to be more precise where you aim. If my enemy is not angling and directly ahead of me, I aim center mass just below the turret/breech, so in case the crew survives, there’s a high chance I disable the breech.

I ignore HEATFS in favor of HE, but keep in mind that it has significantly less velocity. ATGMs are very niche when needed, I bring usually 1 or 2 in case of a low flying helicopter, and avoid using it against enemy tanks.

Best upgrade for T-55A,

Keep 3BM25 as your main shell but carry a few more of BR-412D, I suggest you 14 3BM25, 6 BR-412D and 4 9M117, I barely use OF-412 but this is up to you.

I use less ammo, like around 11 3BM25, 3 BR-412 and maybe around 4 9M117.

If for some reason you feel silly and want to use 9M117, use it in close quarters, T-55AMD-1 works fine in all positions, is a good sniper and a good brawler.

Hey Again,

I was recently playing the ZTZ59D when I noticed this (It’s been a while since I spaced the T-55s), At 8.3 I found that the HEAT-FS shell was surprisingly affective. It was great for dealing with many of the light tanks, APCs and scout vehicles early on in the match, and it’s reliable against MBT armour also.

I would generally have 10 x HEAT-FS Shells, and 10-15 x APFSDS rounds, I would swap between shells if one didn’t work. Generally though, the HEAT-FS was a lot more reliable recently than when I remember using it years ago at BRs 8.0 to 9.0.

I play the premium T-55 a fair bit and I always keep a few APHE shells loaded also, as they are very lethal against the lighter armoured MBTs like the Leopards and Pattons, it’s quite easy to kill vehicles with a single shot, so long as you know how to penetrate the tank you’re shooting at.

P.S. I always keep a few missiles loaded, but I rarely fire them, because of how I play it’s generally always more effective to just shoot a conventional shell instead of a missile.
