Vehicle(s):
Strv-103 Series
Why you like it:
The armour profile makes it decently armour for the actual thickness. This alongside being the only vehicle series outside of Arcade to not bail out when down to one crew member left. Makes it quite survivable if the enemy doesn’t flank you. The Strv-103’s are also decent snipers, especially the C variant with it’s powerful APFSDS round. Is relatively quick for it’s intended role, though it’s top speed is nothing to write home about. HESH is a nice touch too and you can easily swap it around with the AP rounds. HESH is especially important which I’ll mention why in the dislike section
What’s neat about it:
The armour profile. The fact that it’s the only casemate MBT, the fact that the gun doesn’t even have gun elevation and you need to use hull aim in the form of hydropneumatic suspension like the Japanese MBT’s, unlike the Japanese MBT’s it’s automatic. Despite that you can toggle it off and do it manually if you desired. It has a full ammo autoloader which is rare even for top tier MBT’s. For early MBT’s, that’s unheard of
How you usually play it:
Depends on the map. Generally as a sniper on larger, more open maps, if the opportunity allows for it I can either flank or push, finding ideal places for sightlines and/or hull-down locations. On Urban maps I lock down a sightline, sometimes being a support breakthrough tank if there are teammates around. In other words basically anything that’s not CQC with a preference on long range and support
Best moment you’ve had with it:
I had matches where getting 5 or more kills is not unheard off though I always have it with a lineup which does help get even more kills in the same match. More importantly is the matches where I soak up dozens of shots and survived. Being a bullet sponge until a friendly either as another tank or CAS arrives. Sometimes I endure long enough to get it repaired and take out the enemy.
What’s bad about it:
It’s a very unique vehicle with unique gimmicks and unique combinations of already uncommon features. However it does come at a price.
Due to it’s hull aim and having no turret, it’s not ideal in CQC. You can still make it work but it’s incredibly sketchy and relies on the enemies having a bigger skill issue. Also because it’s a Casemate when both of your tracks are blown off it immobilizes you. Not unique to this vehicle but still need to be considered when playing this vehicle. What’s especially annoying that the gun barrel can be very easily broken as well as the front fuel tank having a tendency to catch on fire which can be very frustrating sometimes. Finally the Co-axial MG’s are useless outside of clearing trees. Even if they’re replaced with 50.cals the elevation is very poor on them. In other words, use HESH on squishy targets
Recommended lineups:
Note: I have 6 slots for all nations except Israel
Strv-103-0 & Strv-103A
Choose either the A or 0 premium but not both unless you have the slots to spare. Strv-101 & T-54 as your complimentary MBT’s, U-SH 405 & Ikv-91 as your LT’s, VEAK 40 as your anti-air. If you want to use your SPAA in a more TD role either the VEAK or the ZSU-57-2. Honorary mention goes to the VIDAR if you really into artyslop. No real good CAS outside of the SK60B & maybe the Vampire FB52 but that’s pushing it
Strv-103C
Strv-104 & T-55M as your complimentary MBT’s, Ikv-91 105 as your LT, ItPsV Marksman and VEAK as your SPAA. Honorary mention goes to the Pbv-302 with the BILL ATGM. CAS options are a little bit better since you have the previously mentioned SK60B as well as the HKP2, Saab-105G, Saab-105OE & A32A to choose from
