War Thunder surround sound doesn’t work without enabling “Windows Sonic for Headphones,” but using Windows Sonic reduces sound quality across the board.
I’ve tried all sound settings in War Thunder: “Auto,” “7.1,” “5.1,” and “Stereo.” None of these have resolved my issue. It seems like War Thunder thinks my headset is part of a larger speaker system, only playing sound from the front.

Here is a video demonstrating my problem. I’m currently using a sound mod, but I have had this issue for a while and have even done a complete reinstall of War Thunder. Additionally, I am using a completely fresh Windows 11 install.
My headset is the DT-770 PRO X LE.
Surround sound works perfectly in every other game except for War Thunder. My headset is plugged directly into my motherboard via the L-out port on my MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS motherboard.
I have a friend with a similar motherboard that has the exact same 3.5mm jack layout. His headset is plugged into the same port as mine, yet he has surround sound without enabling Windows Sonic, using only the “Auto” setting in War Thunder. The only differences are that he has a different headset with the same number of drivers and is running Windows 10 instead of 11.
Does anyone have any fix for this issue?
