Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 1)

Sorry for late reply
So I’ve quickly taken a look at the study: and from what i understood in the first they are basically doing in the first part is trying to get a better estimation of the Oswald coefficient to increase the range at which Lifting Line theory (which is the Cl = (something Cd)^2 still works, and they also like i’ve said previously that, by trying to do that, Oswald can’t be a simple number but is something that decreases with the increase if the drag coefficient:

Then the study shows a bunch of different methods for calculating oswald based on shapes, conditions etc. (otherwise it would need to be determined experimentally).

The values in the table below are probably computed for small angles of attacks using those methods they described.

(Sorry for the late reply and if someone already responded but)

That’s a prototype Su-30MKM, hence the DAMOCLES

Thanks for the informative replies, hopefully the Su-30SM comes with the best possible capability on release.

The Su-30 is my favorite looking Flanker variant, I can only hope that it builds on what we currently have and more.

Su-27M with TVC, uprated engines, digital FBW, and PESA radar

Bug Report: Su-33 and F-16A OCU are not identified on RWR and their launches do not trigger a warning.

Huh, I was wondering that is “Н/О” (Unknown) on RWR display inside 29SMT

Probably. I would guess “Н/О” would be “Не Опознаный” or “Не Определённый” (“Not Identified” or “Not Specified”).

I’d still prefer mirage-style maneuverability over longer range of r-77. I would really like defensive gameplay with frequent maneuvering

I too hope Su-30SM comes with best possible capability and something new for Russian/Soviet aviation tree. Su-27SM is cool, but I wouldn’t mind a modern Su-30SM.

Unless you have reems of actual data on IRBIS don’t expect the radar to be good. CAPTOR is a joke right now and we cant find unclassified sources to fix it.

Unlike mechanically scanning CAPTOR, IRBIS or whatever they will put in this aircraft is going to be a PESA radar. In the current top tier CAPTOR is the only thing that performs outright bad in wide scan modes so yeah, I’m fairly certain it will be a good one and an absolute upgrade over 27SM in that regard.

It’s awful you cant reliably track targets and close range switching targets becomes a thing of luck

isnt here internal report on scan speed?
as i remember - Gunjob stated smth like that, but i might be wrong

My 2 cents would be just to focus on one or two targets at a time with narrow scan and be ready to go defensive quickly. I’d also highly suggest tracking people with IRST if you’re flying non-german EF until they get into a no-escaping position then change to radar and fire away. I’ve been using IRST lately and results are absolutely devastating on my enemies. They don’t even realize I’m there until it’s too late.

Anyway let’s not derail this topic any further.

N035 IRBIS, Its an Hybrid. It has a lot of benefice from AESA radar. It even have 1779 TM. Thus it scan speed should be on part with AESA radars. Its have an stupid azimuth 240º, with that you can notch while keep track of the enemy plane… A lot of AESA can’t do that and only Captor-E in the future could have something similar.

From the first comment on this vid Irbis-E screen - flight tests against multiple targets.. i discover that the Serbian Wiki has a lot of info about IRBIS.

If I’m not mistaken 30SM comes with BARS (idk if IRBIS equipped ones have the same designation) which is a PESA radar and we don’t know what it is coming in the upcoming patches at the moment. Regardless, as I said earlier it’s going to be a definitive upgrade over current top tier Sukhois.

Yea 30sm has BARS. My problems with Su-30SM its the engine. I don’t think this plane is 14.0 material. But look like gaijin will give us another mediocre for it tier Su-27*.

They could maybe introduce improved R-77s on it since it won’t be winning any BFM unless it catches the enemy fast and rails them with R-73s. That would make it a more BVR focused aircraft compared to 27SM we currently have. Better radar, slightly longer range R-77s and better multirole capability at the cost of slightly worse flight model sounds alright to me.

Sometimes R-27ET works and you get cool games like this:
