Who was seriously asking for RVV-MD? R-77-1 was the obvious stopgap that blatantly wouldn’t leapfrog the SPAMRAAM. We need a non-hobbled flight model, and we need a radar that can reliably function beyond visual range. Even fixing the broken scan pattern would be a tremendous help since currently the worst case time to re-scan the same block of sky can be as high as 2T when it should be T. This is afflicting everyone’s radar, but it is a BIG DEAL for the flanker since 2T is 8 entire seconds due to the combination of facts that the scan rate is so slow and we can’t redefine how many degrees that we want in a single sweep. The terrible scan pattern isn’t a noteworthy deal when I’m flying my F-15E because it scans the sky so fast and I can always shrink the scan angles down to laser focus on whatever I want. The Su-27 is comparatively blind outside of visual range.

I wonder if they ever fix the scan patters… going down up down up is just nuts… Why cant they fix it after god knows how many years. Most scan patters in modern radars are from top to down then jump on top and repeat. But noooo… gaijin has to repeat it from bottom for some reason. Is there even any russian jet with so re*arded scan pattern? Or hell… give planes their scan patterns if they are special.
I don’t even bother trying to acquire BVR locks with TWS mode in most situations in the flanker. Most of the time I can physically see the target’s contrail but the radar contact is several seconds out of date and isn’t good enough to even acquire a missile lock since it’s off target by so much.

Can the Su-33 use any versions of the R-77?
I had never seen it (RVV-MD) mentioned in any of these threads at any point. People ask for FM and radar tweaks- “no we aren’t giving you better missiles”. If they aren’t purposefully sidestepping the issues this is a crazy amount of ignorance from the devs

No. It will get “gaijin’d” to reflect the plane as it was marketed during 2010 trials. Never actually had the radar, just the potential to have it.

But why is it needed in the game if it’s going to be worse than the basic Su-27 in every way?
As far as I remember, its canards are non-controllable.

Su-27 time to climb with equal fuel time and 8 AAMs [4 R-27Rs to account for not being R-77s] to F-15E/C is 2 minutes 40 seconds.
In comparison F-15J is 2 minutes 24 seconds with 4x AIM-7 and 4x AAM-3.
And F-15E is 2 minutes 1 second with 8x AIM-120.
They said that the R-77-1 and the AMRAAM were not much different. Is this really not much different? It seems like a bullying move to the Soviet players.

Yes. It was a canard like the JA37, which was simply added to increase lift. To be honest, GAIJIN is wrong about which aircraft to put up against the EF2000.
