eurocanards might have better acceleration and top speed, but they struggle to maintain energy, even at sea level. Gripen E is less maneuverable than the Gripen C, so it is no longer a problem for most flankers
Even on min fuel the Rudder is still kicking, and the plane slows down mid turn.
The Flankers, esp the TVC ones also bleed a lotttt of speed, on the SM/MKM and SM2 they also struggle to gain their speed back (much less so on the SM2).
Unfortunately the SM2’s main advantage over other aircraft at top tier (in terms of dueling) is low speed dogfighting with TVC, it loses a 2C to most planes, and it is pretty good in a 1C, assuming you can hit your shot using TVC, since if you miss then you’re nearly guaranteed to be out of speed.
I dunno, I love the Flankers and I’ve watched a lot of footage of them, it baffles me that in game their only strength in a dogfight it low speed ITR and sitting on their engines.
try tapping rhythmically on the surface you’re aiming for
I’ve learned to use tvc way better like this, instead of just holding down a key 100% of the time until the plane points where I want
I mean, it’s a great advice, but i think you also can see a problem with this method existing at all.
explain further
That’s mostly true for flankers with canards, both TVC and non TVC, due to increased drag.
every other airframe is quite good in pretty much any type of fight
I’ve also found the tvc to work better/be more controllable with full real controls
I thought this would be self-explanatory. Giving game repeated inputs like that doesn’t sound like a natural way to control the aircraft. I am not questioning effectiveness of this method, i am questioning the fact that giving repeated inputs like this gives different results. You wouldn’t see a pilot jerking a rudder pedal irl. Same goes for repeatedly tapping pitch down in a turn to “cool off” G load of a pilot in war thunder.
I just realized I fked up and didn’t turn on AOA mode.
Lemme try again.
yes, definitely
Well, at the end of the day, game is a game, i am not expecting to get a perfect TVC controls or a sim level detalisation of an airframe, but you can’t deny that it’s a bummer.
Alright, AOA Button ON, TVC ON, And just tapping the Rudder after pitching, and my yaw performs even worse.
In the Second clip I also gave it some Elevator to try and force the TVC to do something but they simply refuse.
after all, we play with keyboard and mouse, so I think that given the way the Flanker is flying, its an excellent result (can be better tho)
In this clip I make sure to get my nose 90+* BEFORE giving it any rudder, still just tapping, and well.
I would assume most of this is caused by the Instructor.
Maybe someone like @kizvy or @ron_23 who play sim can try it in full real and see if they can complete a perfect Kvotchers bell.
Fair point. After the buffs it does feel like way close to what can be expected from an aircraft with massive lift area and amazing control at near stall speeds and high AoA
I’m very interested (and worried) for how Gaijin will model the Su-57, Since the FM would be like a Flanker to the extreme.
(Bigger wing area, more lift)
Luckily it is supposed to be lighter than Su-35S and Su-30SM.
ever since that button appeared I hardly use full real anymore, only for a few very specific planes ((I also stepped away from the world of dueling and high level gameplay lel)
Fair, but Full Real is the best for testing, since it completely turns off the instructor, so there’s no funny business behind the scenes.
I know a lot of people have stepped back from super competitive gameplay, even in ESports teams.
