Intercepting with guns only is wild, can only surmise the chase aircraft offset has some form of missiles.
it is also possible that they are carrying 1 or 2 missiles (somewhat) concealed between the intakes
it wouldnt be the first time that flankers were spotted like that in an interception mission

Having a MAWS is nice just wish the protection systems were more reliable.

More like had money. Russia barely scraped by and had to fuse most of the design bureaus into a single company to save it’s aircraft development. Same with production. Su-30M2 was ordered mostly for 2 reasons - to save the factory from going bankrupt and to replace severely aged Su-27UB airframes.

Su-34 is made in Novosibirsk. Su-30M2 is made in KnAAZ.
Su-34 is very capable platform. Only thing it’s really missing is a proper optics with thermals and gimbal, but i’m not sure that Su-30 and Su-35 optical containers are even in service.

Yes, Su 34 has strong capabilities, but what makes it such an indispensable assistant compared to Su 30, for example?
Su-30 is not used as a frontline bomber. It is produced mostly for Navy as a land based multi role aircraft. And Su-35S currently busy with being fighter-interceptor. But even comparing 30SM to 34, 34 has better crew ergonomics, stronger airframe that allows for bigger payload on a single pylon (infamous FAB-3000) and better combat range. Overall biggest shortcoming of the Thunderquack is outdated optics. Platan doesn’t have thermals and its gimbal limits are pretty sad.
