Could the R-77M potentially be fit on the Mig-31?

it uses apu 170 for its r77-1s, r77 which are same rails as 77m, so there’s nothing physically stopping it from carrying it. who knows if radar is compatible tho

probably, it seems to be using the same launch rails as the normal r-77 and r-77-1

I see, well if the radar was made compatible, the MiG as a platform could give quite a lot of energy to that missile.

Could be interesting to see that fit + the R-37M’s

i mean there’s really no reason to not just use r37ms, because they’re much longer ranged. although they do take different pylons so there’s actually no problem with that actually. it still takes less total arh missiles than an su-35s though… so there’s no point using the mig-31 over that. su-35s also has much better thrust to weight so much better acceleration, only thing it lacks is super top end speed.
max 10 missiles (6 37s and 4 77s)

a more likely loadout would be:
6x r37
2x r77
2x r73

alltho 4x r77 is also possible (but i personally prefer having atleast some IR missiles)

it can also carry r60 double pylons

A “loss” of lift? There practically is none.

here’s a photo of su30sm (left) and su30sm2 (right). you can really see the differences, the most prominent one imo is the extra antenna below the nose on the sm2

from that angle yes

but if you see it from the front or top you can look at the leading edge to differentiate them

hopefully it means extended rwr angles

you also can clearly see additonal cm pods

Su-30SM has SPO-30, Su-30SM2 has SPO-32.

Well, RWR antennas are those little knobs. But this giant radiotransparent panel makes me wonder if it’s those mythical L-band radar antennas that are rumored to be on Su-35S in the leading edge slats.

never heard anyone refer to l-150 as spo 30/32. even in russian publications it still calls it Л150

Functionality wise they could be identiical. It seems that it’s still a good old L-150 just tweaked for SM2 airframe. Like it was done for most of Flanker airframes

you mean these?
