Since when Russian knights run escort missions?

Always, i remembered from my childhood how the host at an air show said that all the planes needed was to be armed and they could take part in combat operations.

woah dude russian knights camo is so peak

Yes, I know that all Russian Knights aircrafts are mass produced versions with full combat capabilities. But it’s a group of 16 aircrafts located in Kubinka. There are units much closer to Norway to escort Tu-95s, and much less “valuable” in terms of pilot quality so you could run them on a routine mission.

do you really think russia will leave a su35 in a base without using it in this war.

every plane count, even old su33 and su27sm3

I actually do believe that they would. If Russia don’t involve most of its military there, why would they involve entirety of an airforce?

Norway probably used some random photos

For example, Russian Knights escorted Tu-95 on victory day parade.

We could also come up with seed operations to destroy air defense systems, rather than just wasting resources on sending in Fabs, which is somewhat effective, but also using tactical air missiles.

FAB is a fraction of a cost of a tactical air to ground missile. SEAD missions are most likely just not really useful in Ukraine.
And to be fair, Kh-31P is pretty much a default part of combat loadout on Su-35 nowadays anyway. FABs are mostly used by Su-34.

You’re not really wasting much ressources by using FABs, they’re cost effective assets

SEAD missions are done in ukraine, but it heavily depends on what the target is and if the attacking aircraft is able to preform it.

Ie, as far as I understand, Su-30/35s carry Kh-31PDs as a means of retaliatory fire, in case if they can find an enemy radar. If it’s a large stationary radar like one at an airfield they’ll more likely use a “headless” Kh-35U (GNSS only, no ARH seeker) from an Su-34.

This is all VERY different compared to peak soviet SEAD doctrine. (shocker ik)

Another part of why SEAD missions aren’t as common/successful in ukraine is in part related to the fact that Russia, unlike America mainly, doesn’t have much experience in heavy SEAD/DEAD warfare unlike the US had in wars like Vietnam or Desert Storm.

How effective is this tactic in general? I remember there were some plans to create an EW aircraft based on the Su 34 and in the end, he was left without his own RWR… But you know the incident with Timur Ivanov

Russia is gaining territory and Ukraine struggles to intercept ordnance that goes its way, so… probably decently effective to say the least

Russian SEAD missions have almost nothing to do with this nowadays.

99% of the anti air system losses that happen nowadays are almost entirely FPV/Drone related.

I don’t know much about an EW focused Su-34 but, that’s not exactly needed since every L-150 suite contains the means to pick up and help target radar signatures pinging the mother aircraft.

And effectiveness wise, who knows, unlikely it’s super effective to be completely frank but it’s what they do still…
