Gaijin and Russians seem to think throwing more stuff on old designs brings them up to the level of more modern designs and the world does not work like that.
T-90s more blocks more armour same design flaws
Su-27 and even F-15s bigger Radar more hardpoints upgraded engines. Yet they will only ever be a stop gap more modern purpose built designs will always be superior.
There is a reason the US made the F-22 and didnt just modernise the F-4

Most countries do this to try and keep their older fighters capable.
Eventually the Radar and weapons matter more than the platform.

Even with your edit I stil don’t quite understand what you’re getting at.
The Soviets didn’t modernize the MiG-21, they made the Su-27.
And in response to the F-22, they made (the one mig we don’t talk about) and then the Su-57.
To my understanding, fighters are mostly upgraded around facing opposition from similar generations and having the possibility of hitting up one.

Because you can use them in a secondary role.

guys, could you all forget about 27sm3? It’s non-existent, there were no sm2 to begin with, it’s a myth. Only real 27sm with number 3 was 27sm(3), in which 3 stands for number of tech test. It had nothing new over the one we have in game

For real man, managed to make a 2022 jet look like a 70’s museum piece.
On top of that, it still misses the most evident 3D model features (HUD/CM), I think those will have a chance to appear once the devs are back from their holidays.
