Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

China probably wasn’t interested in A2G capabilities for Su-35S and picked it mostly for A2A as well as engines + airframe testing.

Ye it’s most likely. And one thing it’s just Su-35. S variant has different sensors etc.

Well, depends on what are you implying under “just Su-35”. This designation was only used by export version of Su-27M as far as i know. And this is the exact reason why we have Su-35S instead of Su-35 - to avoid confusion. I don’t know how exactly contract for Chinese Su-35s looked but i doubt that they used just “Su-35”

Chinese su-35 is just su-35. No s.

Officially? Or just in mass media?

Officially, export designation of su-35s is su-35. Search it up on roe ru website

Yeah, i looked it up. Quite funny, this adds even more confusion now. I was thinking it will use Su-35SE designation, similar to Su-30SME, but i guess no one careds.

Well, it is unknown if China actually bought those. But considering that we have Germany jets with 9Js that were never bought by Germany, Germany MiGs with ERs that were never delivered to Germany, F-5C with 9E that didn’t even exist at the time F-5C was flying we can give Chinese Su-35 Kh-38 without too much of a concern.

Exactly what I’m saying

Well didn’t smin say if X vehicle can use X item even tho it never had it equipped irl due to other reasons like it was never purchased, it can still be considered to get it

Ye right, i forgot about it.

So do you have any idea how we should call it?

Russian one is called Su-35s, Chinese and other export ones are called Su-35. The 90s canarded one was called Su-27m/su-35. You can just call em whatever u want, most people would think ur referring to the modern one anyways most of the time

Putting the fire forget missile a side, any glide bombs on the su35? Umpk or the new extended range bomb ? Ik we still missing the 1500umpk on the su34 but did they use it in su30sm

I think Russians liked that number a little bit too much, to the point where it’s a bit confusing to call aircraft that name.

Yeah funny how both these planes have same designation

Actually, director of Sukhoi design bureau (before it became OAK) said that 5 and 7 are lucky numbers for Sukhoi. And that’s one of the reasons why their 5th gen aircraft got Su-57 designation and light stealth fighter design got Su-75

Well, technically both 30SM and 35S should be able to use FAB-250 and 500 with UMPK, but in-game it’s pretty much meaningless because you already have Grom-2 that has more explosive mass and flies fruther.
