Due to idiots on command chain? Misscommunication? Or just simply Eagle pilots didn’t expect such a sudden threat and got shot down by Iran.
Last one sounds less possible considering Eagle has more than enough early warnings not to get shot down by missile easily.
Or simply, they didn’t expect to have any Iranian medium- or long-range anti-aircraft defenses still operational; the fact that they appeared three times would still be very suspicious, moderators appearing in 3, 2, and 1.
