Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

Hey guys, the Su-27 wing root is supposed to be flush, right? Or is this gap supposed to be here? I remember someone reported this was a bug for the Su-30SM, but is is meant to be here on the other Flankers?

Su-33

Huh. I wonder why they made it flush on some variants but not others-

it is only not flush on the 27 and 35 iirc

every variant with canards has it smooth

Huh, odd.

thats because (from my understanding) there are two camps in sukhoi that have slightly different opinions
one wants canards, the other one dosent, for example

i think @BBCRF might know more than me about that than me

IIRC
Three factories.
Knaapo Su-35S and Su-30 without canards
Irkut Su-30 with canards
Novosib Su-34.

need to assign a KGB officer with a Mauser to every engineer in Irkut and Novosibirsk to force them make Su-35S and not invent their own incompatible flankers.

Why a Mauser and not Makarov or MP443

100%, based knaapo for not making canard flankers

I know, but I would’ve figured they woulda just made the proportions larger and keep the shape from the original Flanker.

but, that does make sense-

Anyone gonna report that ESA radars should be able to fire SARH missiles in TWS and guide multiple of them?

I’ve only seen that for the irbis radar, which can guide 2 27ers at once.
