Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 1)

Question for the russian peeps here; does anyone have a source specifying how the Kh-38M’s seekers works specifically irl? I’m trying to find info on the thing but theres basicly nothing barring some basic stuff

I just looked at the radar MFD for NCTR. Having the info on the HUD on sim will make things much easier hehe

Edit: just saw that NCTR and lead indicator just got added to the sim HUD in today’s change log. Rejoice!

No the hud NCTR was added a few days ago. They finally completed that bug report (same one with the hud nctr) that noted the missing lead indicator too with this patch

I found it on one of the forums

R-77-1 and R-77 are doing crazy stuff in game right now. They act like a TVC missile but they do not have TVC and the design with small fins and the large grid fins make me think they shouldn’t be able to hit 180 degree shots?

Can you post the clips so we can discuss it properly?

Did they fix the Su-30SM model too?

Looks the same to me tbh, the front wing gap is still there for example

Bummer.

LOL no

I’m impressed, they actually made a new pylon, or edited an existing one to make it look like the pylon that’s mounted on the Su-35

Starting to understand why they didn’t add the SM2. I fly at 5000m launch at high flying enemies heading straight at 40km. Like a third of the time I get a few kills.

Says a lot about the enemies

Finished spading the su30 this week, it’s indeed Very good, more than enough for the meta (although these 40km shots wouldn’t hit them if they were a bit smarter, i guess they got used to the regular r-77 range).

And yet the same argument is used for the AIM-120, but people don’t see it the same way… Curious 🧐

What? The people claiming the AIM120 is bad because people can counter it? That’s not what I’m saying.

No, I’m saying the same argument that the AIM-120 is somehow good, despite it’s only unique traits being long range shots (that are still less than the R-77-1 BTW) are only effective against bad players.

But somehow that only matters in an argumentfor the R-77-1 and against the AIM-120, despite the R-77-1 being by far the best under every other envelope, outside of the absolute minimum maneuvering envelope against the MICA. Curious…

In warthunder R-77 can pull 50G (at least that it what the stat card said). Its suppose to be able to do 150º a second. Pretty much TVC territory. Also R-77-1 its suppose to pull more G.

That can happens to all missile. The other day i launched a mica over 40+ and a F-15c fly straight into it… The most fun thing that has happen to me with R-77-1 its that some people thing that they had evade the missile and Literally turn into it. Its so odd get a kill after like a minute after you launch the missile. A few time i have even see how they turn into the missile using weapon cam “U”. The missile literally Haggin on the air.

The AIM-120 is good, exceptional even.

Which is a bad misrepresentation. Active Radar missiles are tools, they force the enemy to respond and go defensive, or die. And forcing the enemy to go defensive is key to gaining advantage against them.

And the AIM-120 does that exceptionally well, because not only the long range but also it retains energy very well, unlike the R-77 and R-77-1 which bleed speed much faster.

You see a lot of players who ripple off their Fox3’s, turn around and run away, instead of pressing the advantage they gain.
