Finally, a suggestion for this amazing vehicle! I’d love it at 10.7 tech tree- extremely fast, excellent climb, poor but not awful manueverability, countermeasures (albeit at the expense of one of the gunpods), long-range missiles, and R-60Ms.
I’d just wonder about the placement on the tree. Between aircraft such as this, the Su-9/11, the interceptor Floggers, and the MiG-31 there are a lot of Soviet interceptors to be added but not really a designated line for them. Somewhat similar story for the US as well.
+1, Gaijin is slacking when it comes to the dedicated Cold War interceptors, this goes for the U.S as well, they’ve somewhat already got theirs going with the F-104 line.
I dont know what makes you think the manoeuvrability would be poor. Double delta wings and a high TWR do pretty good things for the J-7E. The Su-15TM probably has a higher wing loading and hence wouldnt turn as tightly but I reckon the turn rate/retention would be pretty strong.
I cant tell you how much I would love to see that xD.
I have a spreadsheet of maybe 100 vehicles Id most like to see come to the game and those 2 are probably some of my favourites
The Su-15TM has an overload of only 6.5g, which translates to 9.75g in-game. While it may be able to pull some AoA, it wouldn’t be able to sustain a turn without the wings falling off. It’d be similar to the F-8E, which also has a 6.5g limit.
Some more images of Su-15TM aircraft from a couple books I have:
Su-15TM (7 Images)
The first two show 74 Blue and 75 Blue which were the first two production Su-15TM aircraft. The 4th shows 47 Red in an all-black scheme during an airshow.
The books are Gordon’s Sukhoi Interceptors book and Markovsky’s Su-15 Fighter-Interceptor book
