-1. France needs more unique vehicles, not more copy-paste. Plenty of unique French or BeNeLux light tanks that could be added instead.
A Belgian CVRT would be unique, they where the largest foreign operator of the CVRTs and modified the Scimitar to suit their own needs. Ammunition load would be different too irrc
So rather have nothing then something?
Minor visual changes don’t make it not copy-paste. What changes would actually impact gameplay?
No, like I said, I’d rather any one of the many unique French, Belgian or Dutch light tanks.
Conversion to Cummins diesel engine in the LEP started in 1997/98, not 1988.
The 1988 thing Alvis did was fitting Perkins T6 diesel from Stormer in to Scorpion/Scimitar hulls, but it was only for export customers in the end. Spain and Chile operated Scorpions with the Perkins engine.
Spain’s also had the larger dia. headlamps that were then adopted by UK CVR(t) in the 90s, but they were mounted in the underside position
Can see the hull mod for the engine intake on Perkins diesels is differently shaped to the UK Cummins diesel hull mod
But we know, with a certainty, that those are not coming this patch unless gaijin surprise us with something, so how does A Belgian Scimitar change anything other than getting something in the now?
also on gameplay, name a French vehicle in the TT right now which is armed with a similar weapon to the Scimitar? Fills in the same autocannon tracked vehicle role with a decent pen? I mean heck, is there 1 at all that will do the 7.3/7.7 role of the RARDEN at all that could go in there?
Or at the same br or era.
Service lights of the era and BR range not in game are limited to the Dutch M113 based YPR-765 with a 25mm Autocannon, & the Dutch/French AMX-13-105. That’s it without delving into prototypes
Because it encourages further C+P and potentially blocks future additions around the same BR (oh France already has an IFV! No need for a new one anytime soon :3 – Gaijin)
There are none added right now. I never said there were though. Not sure what this argument is meant to be – does France need a vehicle with a very similar playstyle to the Scimitar?
There are quite a few options for autocannon light tanks around that BR. Nothing identical, obviously, but still.
- AML HS30. 30mm with APDS.
- AML-20 w/ MILAN ATGMs. 20mm with APDS and APHE.
- AMX-10P ICV 2. 25mm with APDS.
- AML TTB 120. 20mm with APDS and APHE.
- MARS-15 25. 25mm with APDS.
These are all prototypes. I much prefer in service options.
There are hundreds of prototype vehicles in-game already, and if the choice is between a unique prototype or a copy-paste service vehicle, I choose the prototype 9 times out of 10. But, each to their own.
Thanks for the correction, the only hard dates I could find was alivis getting the lep contract in '88 and Scimitar getting the engine upgrades from '95. Did you happen to have a book or something other I can use as a source that’s a little bit more reliable?
How long do you want to wait for them though? The gap has basically existed since the introduction of France. Promises and counterparts appearing haven’t changed anything about the situation.
I want these vehicles as much as you, trust me. However, I’ve just given up hope on them ever coming as we have had ZERO indication over the past years that Gaijin has any plans for them.
Also “it’s gonna encourage more C&P”. This point is moot, nobody wants the new Leopards for France, they don’t fill a useful gap and still they’re here. Gaijin is gonna C&P anyway no matter what we say about it. If they cared, the Leo’s wouldn’t be here to begin with and the approach would’ve been changed after all the flak taken from previous subtree introductions. It hasn’t, so why would this single addition suddenly make a difference?
Not to forget ofc the “if not now, when?” bit, given there will always be something France “could have” which would mean the minor nations now linked to it will never get a go under that logic. Its something that always bugs me with that argument… its effectively the polite way of saying “no, never give Belgium a tank” here (you see it a ton with Indian vehicle suggestions)
I wouldnt count the armoured cars as thats more fox like.
Tracked, perhaps, but I would guess gaijin would likely make those a higher BR then the Scimitar personally (also prototypes over being a staple vehicle of an army)
The difference is I’m clearly not saying don’t give France any Belgian tanks. Just make sure they’re unique (of which BeNeLux has quite a few!!). There are so many that I’d like to see.
Still 7.7-ish. I repeat, does France really need a Scimitar analogue? What’s wrong with a Fox analogue?
Afraid not. What I know of the CVR(t)s primarily comes from ABRO in the 2000s.
I can say the Army Guide website’s article on CVR(t) is largely very accurate regarding the LEP. Though when it talks of BAE in the late-90s/early-00s period it was actually still Alvis, or Alvis-Vickers, and didn’t get taken over by BAE until 2004. Also the installed Cummins engine wasn’t operating at 235hp until other mods like replacing the final drive and an up-rated transmission, were carried out as a UOR. Normal LEP was still 190hp same as the Jaaaag. CVR(t) LEP transmissions
But I know as a web page it’s not altogether great using it as a source so far as gaijin’s rules go.
I’m pretty sure most places that are citing 1988 for the LEP are copy-pasting a typo from one source, that was meant to say 1998.
Nothing wrong with it. But I would say that tracked vs wheels is a pretty chunky difference personally speaking.
Belgiums unique is mostly prototype vehicles, their actual, fielded armour was heavily imported lol. Saying no “copy-paste” effectively cuts out pretty much the mainstay of Belgian armour they actually fielded. It would be akin to saying no copy-paste centurions and leopards for Canada… xD
Heh, thanks!
I probably should learn more about the Scimitar, It’s one of my favourite tanks after all, but information is surprisingly hard to come by, hell, I’ve got a Rarden shell casing but no books lmao.
That would make sense, I’ll go edit my post!
YPR-765 PRI, YPR-765 PRAT could be cool
