only about 2 knots off of the I-201’s speed at 17.2 knots submerged. The XXI is the sub i am the most excited to get my hands on though
I’m going to say it right now : I feel like the type XXI is going to be the F-16 of submarines. In one word :
Copypaste
Would love to be wrong though
dont make me think about that :(
As long as i can have my big boy at the end of the TT, wich alone displace more than the entire German uboot fleet, i’m happy
For a design that probably wont get added that i still would like to see is the soviet P.2
I wonder if submarines that could carry midget subs would be able to use them ingame like the hydroplanes
No for a prolonged time with multiple days. Only a few were ready before the war ended
So… Not really permanent :p
118 were completed, 4 were combat ready, but only 2 went on patrol
I think only russia (maybe britain) will maybe get the type XXI aswell but even in warhtunder mobile they dont have it. All other nations have their own subs especially early cold war ones
The Type XXIII was the first of the ‘elektrobootes’ to become operational with 61 built, from what ive read atleast 6 of them saw service.
Speaking of big subs I want Typhoon class lol
Archerfish sank Shinano if I remember correctly
I mean, nuclear attack subs are the endgame for what sub tts will have in game
Modern subs will come when the rest of Naval forces moves further into the modern era too. No doubt the first subs we will get will be interwar/WW2 era.
I don’t see any reason that “Sea Wolves” wouldn’t work as an update name. But it’s a bit early to speculate about that.
indeed
That, or SSBNs, mainly because they carry a bit more torps and have bigger flank sonar arrays
Ehhh. At best they’re a sidegrade. The reduced mobility/agility will definitely have a gameplay impact.
idk about agility, but mobility wise they are quite similar. It depends on the country / class i suppose
Not like their max speed and silent running speed are public knowledge anyway
I found a list of submarine classes in service.
(List of submarine classes in service - Wikipedia)
Silent running? Like cyclops?
Silent running is a way to remain as stealth as possible, especially against passive sonars.
Against active sonars the best way is still to use thermoclines i believe (brutal change of temperature and salinity in the water, which curves the sound’s path, like light through glass, and make it possible to find blind spots to a surface active sonar for example)
That’s why going top speed in a submarine isn’t really a situation you want to be in. It generates a lot of noise because of :
- cavitation (also dependent on depth)
- noise due to the water sliding along the hull
You basically give your position away to everyone, while “blinding”, or shall i say “making deaf” your own sonar arrays
K222, an old soviet sub for example, made a speed run at 44.7 knots, but apparently that made the control room very noisy (steam locomotive kind of noisy)
