and it could be implemented immediately since it didn’t use guided torpedoes to my knowledge
Lots of ships in game had guided torps irl but dont in game
From WW2 ships to the cold war/modern ones
ie. Albatross. DM2A1 are sonar/datalink guided irl but they just work as dumb torpedoes in game
yea honestly not sure if the nautilus had sonar homing torpedoes since there’s not much info on that
If not sonar then acoustic homing since those were standard postwar
If we’re talking about relatively early postwar submarine designs, even those with high submerged speed, most escort vessels (DDs, frigates, et cetera) are still faster than them. And I doubt Gaijin will bring those submarines to the game with guided torpedoes. In fact I think it’s much more likely that the escort vessels will get the guidance features of their anti-sub torpedoes before the submarines get any guided weapons.
Only with some of the 1960s Soviet and American nuclear designs are there submarines fully capable of outrunning surface ships.
(I’m going to really enjoy grinding out modifications on a Lira/Alfa, zooming past everybody at top speed )
Spoiler
before immediately getting slapped by an ADCAP
Hopefully someday soon we will get this.
Anyway, speed whilst snorkeling hardly matters because it’s super loud anyway. Any vessel with competent ASW capability like squid or limbo can just go into the same postcode as the enemy submarine and long range depth charge them.
Snorkeling might be useful for speed but it is very loud.
Submarines are an important part of military history - both World Wars would have played out significantly differently if it weren’t for them.
So I think they should be added to War Thunder from the perspective of historical passion.
However they simply can’t work in the current naval modes. Naval already has huge issues, namely maps and compression. Adding another thing will overall be a net negative.
Instead, we could make them usable in PvE or single player missions only. War Thunder hasn’t touched their dynamic campaigns in quite a while and this could be the spark to revitalize them. Maybe make a Battle of the North Sea campaign.
yep
Examples from the german TT (apart from the first one, add like 2-3kph more speed to account for their spaded speed)
How are we feeling about subs coming this year? (still holding out hope for this update, trust)
Soooooooooooo. When are subs going to get added in game?
(I really really really hope soon)
:)
Right now the leaks are quiet… obviously things can change once dataminers get their hands on the dev servers.
Submarines will be a big-ticket hype item that will make Gaijin money, for sure. They will definitely be the big feature of whatever update they come out in.
With that in mind, Gaijin is obviously hyping up the Hornet as the big new addition for this update. I don’t think subs will compete with that. Gaijin will wait for a later update, if they’re coming this year at all. Remember that we don’t actually have confirmation that they’re coming this year, it’s just implied.
Why do you think sub is coming this year? What developers are saying is that 2025 is year of battleship, and you would have to expect ‘new kind’ at least 2026.
Seeing how WOWs busted after submarine addition, I doubt it.
It is entirely possible that submarines don’t come this year, but it seems likely based on the statements of BVVD:
The important statements are:
“Next year, we’ll focus on… adding new types of vehicles”
“In parallel, we’ll work on the implementation of other types of ships”
Since the focus of this year will be adding subtrees and new vehicle types (including specifically naval vessel types), it stands to reason that the addition of submarines may be part of this year.
I can’t guarantee that submarines will be successful, that’s not what I meant to imply on my initial post. But obviously if you’re going to add a new category of vehicle not already in the game, one that will potentially shake up the gameplay of the mode they’re included in, you’re going to advertise it heavily and put it front-and-center for that update.
The last time we saw this was Masters of the Sea which added bluewater naval vessels and The Valkyries which added helicopters. The new vehicle types were the headliners for the updates. This is likely what will happen for submarines when they are added. All I’m saying is that based on that trend, I think we can rule out the March update which seems like it will almost certainly be based on the highly-anticipated F/A-18.
This gonna take 5 years atleast to implement
First leak is already out but no submarines mentioned.

Naval really should have stayed at ww2 era. Modern stuff is gonna ruin it. ww2 Carriers and ww2 subs would be fine.
Uch, how fast are german SF 40? No submerge possible.
a mind boggling 20-ish km/h
