Imagine this music in the sub trailer

Ohh that’d be ideal though, I’d really like onboard sonars on the Shackleton.

Gosh I’m so salty, I wish the Darings would get another version at 5.3/5.7 that comes with a missile.

Si! Si! Si!

The Shackleton did not carry Sonar, only surface scanning radar for shipping and submarines that had surfaced. However it did drop Sonobuoys.

Not really a question relating to NE, but it 's fair here. There are already several types of guided torpedo in WT, though all of them operate as unguided straight-running for what we assume are gameplay simplifications. They include ( but are not limited to ) the Mk.46, 53-65, DM2A1, Type 54 model 3, L3, and Mark 20E Bidder. Most recently, the visual model for this one was added to the files, and there are other unused guided torps too.

These Torpedoes will be a must for when subs are added though German WW1 U-boat might not enjoy them too much

I just want to be able to play sim and not be shot out the air as soon as im within visual distance of the carrier group.

Although, there is something to spending 30 minutes looking for the carrier in a swordfish in sim with my buddy just to have hurt by johnny cash start playing before i realised it was a post spaa buff carrier group lol.

hunting a sub in a swordfish with the aptly named mk 24 naval “mine” would be rather funny.

Well when we get the guidance working in game we could be able to turn it off as most of these torpedoes can act like there WW2 grandpa. Usually to finish off a damaged ship if they cannot recover it.

I GE’d Blackpool in the hopes its bidders get their guided functionality in the future.

I think the best way to do submarines is to have them all start at a BR of 7. That will make it so submarines only spawn in matches with large ships. Submarines can effectively fill the high BR gap that coastal naval leaves.

Where would that leave Frigates and DDs, their dedicated counters?

You up tier them or just don’t care that your being hunted or try to use plane. Most likely out come.

FYI a good amount of battleships had sonars so you could side step the sub even some aircraft carriers

DDs using their ASW equipment strikes me as an essential part of the gameplay loop once subs are added. Raising their BRs would be a massive disincentive for playing them.

Well, I don’t think nimbly dodging torpedoes is something BBs excel at in WT.

More or less sub balance will sit on people wanting anti-sub ship in there line up. I can see people complaining that they cannot handle subs refuse to make a good line up and sit in one location like they do already. Stationary ship is ideal target. But we see so uboat could be over BR sort of like the A6M people keep turn fighting it and failing over and over again but this time with subs in a worse way.

Also if Gaijin is accurate old subs like in ww2 had difficulty targeting combat ships especially at speed. Your ships sonar can give you a general location and you provide a poor angle of attack.

I wouldnt raise the Br of DD’s / Frigates but you could add modern vessels with higher BR’s than there are currently.

Not dying to a submarine should be a pretty good incentive. You could never start submarines off at the starting BR of Bluewater because all of the counters to submarines are researched equipment. You’d have a bunch of new players getting slaughtered by submarines in addition to having to deal with Bluewater enemies.

If you placed submarines at early Battleship BR you would create a situation where Battleships are vulnerable to Submarines, Submarines are vulnerable to DD / Frigates (Which will be the best DD / Frigates in the game at that BR) and DD / Frigates will be vulnerable to Battleships. It will force players to plan and adapt to the matches dynamic.

It will also smooth the learning curve. Players starting out in Bluewater already have to deal with Coastal vessels which are much rarer in high BR matches. Torpedo boats and Planes are both a bigger threat to starter bluewater ships than they are to BB’s. So you’d have a situation where new players get thrust into the game and have learn 4 different types of threats at once. Doesn’t sound fun at all.

Rank doesn’t matter… Lol. Plenty of players bring coastal vessels and DD’s into high BR matches currently. They’re good for capturing.

Most BB players don’t even bother to dodge to begin with even though you can see torps from 20km+ away if you actually try to look.

BB players not even attempting to dodge torps is exactly why 2.7 BR torpedo boats are still playable at 8.3

Depending on the pt boat, BBs don’t even need to dodge but it’s always better to attempt to dodge since not getting hit is the best defense.
