Submarines - WT Discussion

Fwiw, I’m fairly sure submarines had single use deployable noisemakers during ww2.

Essentially a tin of chemical that upon contact with water start bubbling like crazy, creating a shitload of noise which allows submarines to not only hide from & misdirect passive sonars, but also serve as a decoy for dumber (i.e. 1950’s era) passive guided torpedoes.

That is really damn clever but does leave me with two questions. Doesn’t firing that weapon require you to get within range of a submarine that probably already knows your position first? And, is its magnetisation defeated by rubberised anechoic tiles?

Sort of, it exists as an airdropped payload as well. But it’s basically a tool to help aim a depth charge run, and prevent them from escaping since it should keep making noise if they move.

100lbf is a pretty strong magnet.

Would depend on the magnets and how the tiles and substrate interact with them, I know they are on the order of 3~5" thick. It would definitely lower the speed at which the drag would pull them loose though.

Of course. And I don’t mind as long as it’s historically relevant (and implemented as a smart gameplay element). I’m.more worried about overpowered cold war weapons encountering 1930’s submarines.

Heres an easy fix…

Options to think about
Tank battles:
Youre limited on time for aircraft.
That can be set for subs in your inventory same as having more points for subs like aircraft in the ship battles.

Crew slots.

Have set % of slots for ships (blue water, underwater, coastal) and aircraft with requirements of battle rating windows for each.

Example
I have 9 US crew slots open. You onlu get 1 sub, period and 1 respawn like normal. 3 aircraft limit slots. So bomber, fighter, and strike can be kept available depending on mission, and maps available. While 2 slots for coastal are limited, as theres PT boats there and mine layers. Have dedicated coastal battles separate from blue water. If you add a destroyer to a coastal fleet… not to smart, and only have 1 slot available for destroyers in coastal to a set battle rating. Or theres simply no battle or better yet, vehicles are blocked in red as other ship battles prevent higher level aircraft to enter the battle. Let that be the standard if its selected.
Then the rest of the slots larger ships.

In addition, aircraft can drop sonar Bouygues (and they gather points and silver lions for showing the entire fleet, all players the location of the Bouygues and what they are detecting. Same with ships that can dray sonar arrays as well. So that entire team can see that sideof things, it will detect PT boats as well on the maps. How far that detection is and how much other players can see for themselves is based on the radio levels of the crew slot at that time. Why not let it help detection of incoming torpedoes as well displayed on the mini maps.

Just limite the number of ship types for everyone, even give them timers (fuel) and in all battle modes, limits on torpedoes as they can still surface and use a cannon!

Just know there were subs that had 1-2 arial aircraft or even huge cannons on them, even in lue of being able to have torpedoes. And they were able to be used for recon or shoot ata very long distance and were useless up close or against aircraft.

Aircraft could use depth charges as well in addition to sonar and use both during game play.

Sonar Bouygues could have a battery! Only active for so long at short distance, or upgraded like torpedoes or not very long at a far distance.

So its very possible to have subs and be fair about everything.

Just need to RED out stuff more to include the prop VS jets and missiles issues.

Just limit what can be during game play so stuff cant be on a more even playing field. If someone selected something to put themselves in a higher group or something… just exspand the existing restrictions.

Let there be subs!

Why have useless depth charges to unlock in the game unless they have a real use!

Add a sub tree like Helicopters and even alow them in the ships battle at their battle rating…

Helos drop torpedoes and have sonar as well !

Have a dedicated helo crew spot granded once you are able to use them.

Just suggesting something that would work after reading lots here…

People pay a it here... i know i have. If we want it... theres those that will for it for those that prefer not to.

Thats my thoughts on other etails around the subs and i have seen thr infantry stuff posted… why not have a person slot too just to throw everything off…

A person with a javelin… or sam… anti aircraft gun from shore… with a timer like the tank battles…

Make it really intense with adrenaline pumping!

With all that… NO late spawn players to matches… and no booting players till the match is fully complete…

Play it in events and tournaments
With AI or other players as an option

Subs are on the way don’t worry they have stated it was underdevelopment. Though Naval is a bit of a schrodinger’s cat of please add one more thing and I will play it bro.

The major issue with subs is one needs to defeat them to prevent people getting nuked by a WW1 sub with zero counter play. Japanese ships might be able to side step them due to them bolting a sonar set to even there battleships.

WW2 submarines are already slow, WW1 are even worse, i’m not even sure they’re going to make it into the game
