Subject: Inaccurate Powerplant and Gun Barrel on T-80UD / 478BE (Pakistani Service)

I would like to report several historical inaccuracies regarding the T-80UD / Object 478BE as it is currently modeled in War Thunder.

This vehicle represents a Pakistani-operated T-80UD, but it appears to be modeled as an early export baseline rather than the configuration actually used in Pakistani service.

The in-game T-80UD / 478BE is equipped with the 6TD 1,000 hp diesel engine. However, Pakistani T-80UDs received an engine upgrade during their service life to the 6TD-2 producing approximately 1,200 hp. This same engine is used on the Al-Khalid main battle tank and is a documented upgrade path for export and late-service T-80UD vehicles. As a result, the current in-game mobility of the vehicle is underrepresented compared to its real-world configuration.

I understand balance concerns and would fully accept a battle rating increase or the implementation of the 6TD-2 as a late modification, similar to other engine upgrades already present in War Thunder. My concern is historical accuracy rather than vehicle performance.

Additionally, the T-80UD / 478BE appears to use the same gun barrel model as Russian 2A46M-1 equipped vehicles, likely shared with Soviet or Russian T-80 variants. Pakistani T-80UDs were fitted with Ukrainian-produced 125 mm barrels intended for export use, which differ in origin and external characteristics from Russian-manufactured barrels. While this may not significantly affect gameplay, it impacts the visual and historical authenticity of an export vehicle.

In summary, the vehicle should either be equipped with the 6TD-2 engine or have it available as an upgrade, and the gun barrel should reflect the Ukrainian export configuration rather than a Russian model. A battle rating adjustment would be reasonable to maintain balance.

Looks like Gaijin changed the name from object 478du1 back to object 478be…

The problem is not the absence of features but the designation.

For God knows what reason(s), Gaijin switched back to wrong naming of T-80UD/BE while the proper one would be UD/DU1.

But yeah, as you have described the thing, UD/BE has its own set of features that makes it different to UD/DU1, but devs have a hard time distinguishing two models (even though this forum already has a well-written and designed thread covering the subject of Pakistani T-80s)

Yeah I get what you’re saying, them making the wrong name is just really weird. I’ve seen the thread I just wanted to make another one since the last one didn’t get any attention from gaijin, not that this will…

of course…
