J-11 started as licensed Su-27 production from Russian kits with Russian AL-31 engines and Russian assistance and that’s the entire origin of the aircraft. J-15 is straight up based on the Soviet T-10K/Su-33 prototype China got from Ukraine and even the early engines were Russian AL-31s because China’s domestic engines werent reliable enough. J-16 is also aother Flanker derivative descended from the J-11/Su-27 line.
These aircraft totally relied on soviet/Russian engineering and aerospace knowledge.
