Su-24M radar

The Su-24 uses the Orion-A attack radar both irl and in game. In game it only has a search mode. Does anyone know what capabilities it had in real life, and if it was able to track ground targets as well? I have tried to look up information about, it but as I don’t know Russian it’s kinda hard.
Thx in advance!

Ground radars on fixed wing aircraft are something gaijin doesnt really model at the moment.

It is totally and completely missing from aircraft like the Tornado, F-111 and Gripen to name but a few. It is likely the SU-24 would have better A2G radar capabilies if/when Gaijin decides to model them. In the meantime, enjoy the fact you have any semblence of a ground radar on the Su-24. There isnt a wisp of the same on the comprable aircraft like the Tornado.

7.5km range is effectively no radar.

Significantly higher than the 0km range on the Tornado or F-111

And the A-6E Tram ;)

It’s twin radar actually, got a ground radar and a PD search radar.

I believe it’s the only Plane with 2 radars

Oh that’s cool. It’s actually not that uncommon for a plane to have multiple radars in present times (su34 has 2, su57 has 6) but for a plane from that time period its intresting.

Some pretty early aircraft had multiple radars installed.

MiG-19 PT has two radars in the nose, and the F3D naval night fighter also has multuple radars installed.

I’m sure there are many more aircraft with multiple radars.

7.5km is pretty adequate for Sim too. Thing should be with the better ordnance to make it a real standard (one we have is a disgusting mix of M and M2), but complaining about the radar’s a bit silly.

Not really. F-111 and Tornado also had two radars. For F-111 one is TFR, and one is Attack. But in F-111 a has a different look for TFR antenna

Spoiler

One built into another dome, I wouldn’t really constitute it as two radars, because it’s one functioning as two.

Tornado also has 2:
ARI 23274
ARI 23273

The F3D Skyknight has two radars, one for search and one for track (well actually three radars if you count the rear facing radar that’s not in game).

Only looks like one from the photos I’m looking at.

It’s three radars, according to MIL-HDBK-162A.

Relevant excerpt pictured below.

The doc is free to view online, so there should be no problem finding it.

Terrain following and can lock and track both stationary and moving ground vehicles
Terrain following isn’t something in game but ground tracking is, if that’s not modelled that’s a serious issue.

Also, the MiG-17PF/Lim-5P, interestingly with both radars being used for air-to-air- one for search and the other for tracking and missile guidance

There are two radars. The big dish at the back is the search radar, and the little dish in front of it is the tracking radar:

That tiny thing, in the front, that looks like a pulse transmitter, is an entire radar?
