Currently working on a suggestion for the Strv 102, this is just to get a scope of opinion
Sweden operated 240 Centurion Mk.3 tanks under the designation Strv 81. However, after acquiring the more advanced Strv 101, the Swedish Army sought to bring the older fleet up to a similar standard. Between 1964 and 1966, all 240 Strv 81s underwent an extensive modernization program.
The upgrade package included replacing the original main armament with a powerful 10.5 cm Royal L7 gun, installing a new ammunition stowage arrangement, and fitting two modern Ra 421 radio sets—the same communications equipment used in the Strv 101. Following these improvements, the vehicles received the new designation Stridsvagn 102.
The modernization also introduced telehjälmar (tank crew communication helmets), improving internal crew communication and reflecting Sweden’s efforts to modernize its armored forces during the Cold War.
As a premium vehicle, the Strv 102 would offer a unique combination of characteristics: the familiar and proven Centurion platform, the firepower of the 10.5 cm gun, and historical significance as Sweden’s first major Centurion modernization program. It represents an important step in the evolution of Swedish armored doctrine and would fit perfectly as a premium vehicle for players interested in Cold War-era Swedish armor.
Whether for its historical value, upgraded firepower, or its place in Sweden’s armored development, the Strv 102 stands out as a compelling and authentic premium tank choice. As it doesent give any direct improvements over the Strv 101, but is a upgrade to the Strv 81.
Later the Strv 102 was modernised to the already suggested Strv 102R
