Have they approved Meteor for F-35s yet? Last time I chacked they were still stalling on it’s implementation to try and get Euros to buy into late AIM-120s or AIM-260 instead of continuing to buy Meteors.
Realistically in a drawn-out war between the US and China, neither side would be able to invade the other, but China has a higher population, a true production economy and a much more homogenous society. Infighting and a drop in general standard of living would likely force the US out of the war first.

The general US population would not allow for sustained conflict, as seen with the backlash to vietnam and more recently the funding/arming of ukraine and Israel, US citizens (besides the internet hooligans) are unlikely to sit comfortably while their country spirals into deficit, losing their kids/brothers to a war on the other side of the globe

I imagine if they scrap putting the Meteor on the F-35, we’ll just end up buying AIM-260s from the US, which is unfortunate, however the ASRAAM is already integrated so British F-35s should be pretty capable, so long as we don’t keep throwing them into the sea
Vietnam was not an existential war. I doubt the US would pull out like you think it would.

He really underestimates the fact that the anti Ukraine war crowd is the base of the pro-war with china crowd. Vaguely rascist sabre rattling against the chinese is literally the only thing that unites us at this point.
I think someone should make a chart with 2 axis, one axis is the amount of complaining, while the other is how justified it is. Obviously split it into Air/Ground/Naval too.
For example, British mains complain marginally less than US mains, but their complaints are much more justified.
