Does this mean that there are missiles between 9M (9Li for Germany) that could be added to close the gap?
Because I thought that that the next step was AIM-9X, R-73M or R-74, AAM-5, Python 4 or 5, PL-9C, MICA-IR, and ASRAAM together with the IRIS-T in terms of IR missiles.
Because, if I’m not mistaken, all nations should be able to get on par with the leaked aircraft being able to carry them.

The R-73M, Python 4, PL-9C, and R-74 (maybe; I don’t know a lot about this one) are much worse than the IRIS-T and such.
I haven’t done any research into the differences, but the 9M alone has like 15 different versions.
I’ve read about nine variants.
Ok so I guess we would have to go with the R-74M2 for USSR but is sadly only available for Su-57 afaik.
Same for China their best missile is the PL-10 but only available to J-20…
So I guess no modern IR missiles until 5th gen ?
The R-74M will be Russia’s counterpart to everyone else’s missiles for the most part.
The PL-10 is used on almost every Chinese fighter in service today, not just the J-20.
We have no way of knowing.
Every chinese fighter jet made in the last decade can field the PL-10, it will be as commonplace as the Aim-9x later down the line

Even more so. The only American IR missile that will be as good as the PL-10 is the AIM-9X bl 3, which, to knowledge, is still in development.

PIRATE is functionally pretty irrelevant without the ASRAAM combo, that is what will make it OP so to speak

But it is though, the first sightings on operational PL-10 was on the J-10 iirc, its been seen on every operational chinese fighter (PLAAF and PLANAF) since then, stealth or not

Block 3 got canned, which would have upgraded the motor. I’ve seen a source saying they are working on a block 4 which adds a new seeker.
Not all too sure of capabilities but judging from its airframe I assume it will be similar to an Iris-t or ASRAAM in function
