Now Saab confirms that they want to build a completely new fighter jet for the Swedish Armed Forces.
Saab has today received an order for a number of defense systems and equipment from the government of a Western country. The order value is approximately SEK 6.6 billion with planned deliveries in 2027-2028.
wonder if it’s gonna be same level as F-35
maybe same weapon level as the F-35 to?
This program is more akin to a next generation fighter program. So like US’s NGAD program this is more of a 6th gen program. F35 is 5th gen so I don’t these two can be comparable that much. Weapon systems SAAB has not released yet but many stealth fighers have similar missile loadout in the internal bays. External depends on wing span and load.

Sweden is planning to have test in 2027 of an unmmanned aircraft but nothing is clear about it, it’s about doing their own stuff and in 2030 looking to either make a plane solo, either join others, either buy an already existing plane.
And with how difficult it already was for SAAB to receive funding for their Gripen E (and to receive additionnal funding to devellop this aircraft like they are advertising it to be too), don’t expect them to go solo.
Also they want an aircraft similar to the Gripen in it’s ability to land even on things like road.
Maybe UCAV will be shown before but other than that it will be a long wait and see,
