The St Chamond in the game is modeled as the later version with 11mm + 8.5mm spaced extra armour, but it isn’t given it - the model in the game is only given 11mm front plate.
You can see the gap between the original plate and the 8.5mm addition around the gun here:
The later model also had sloped roof panels instead of a flat roof - so grenades would roll off, and an elevated fixed cupola for the commander to see from:
compared to the earlier models:
Unsurprisingly there’s not a lot of original info about this tank available to an amateur seeker, so if anyone can find any suitable info to make an issue to get it fixed that would be great!
ETA: and I’ve managed to put this in entirely the wrong forum - if a forum mod would be so kind as to put it in the Ground Vehicles forum that would be good
It says from 62669 the SIDE armour was improved - nothing about the front armour.
This picture is labelled with a serial number 62572 - which seems to be several serials before the one you think is the beginning of such added armour:
A French soldier displays the damage sustained in the Belloy sector to Saint-Chamond no. 62572 “CH’TIO QUINQUIN” with the extra 8 mm of bolted-on armor. Source- “Pages 14-18”
this also says the angled roof started at 62551 - and the angled roof is associated with the improved armour.
Apparently IRL it was still quite marginal - it could defeat the German 7.92mm AP rifle rounds (K-round), but who knows what effect it might have in game - it still totals only 19.5mm, spaced so less effective than a single plate
But Gaford-Beute don’t need to overpressure Chamond and the rest of the Entente tanks since 76mm HE can just penetrate through the current frontal armor of enemies and it creates another difference. right?
It would be great if St-Chamond also needed to overpressure to kill with HE.
The garford is annoying as hell but its unfair that only one sides best tank is mostly invulnerable to the thing. I average 7-15 shells to keep an A7V down until it dies from range in a garford when it takes one single shot to kill a chamond
‘Hippity hopitty, our magic truck need to pwn every western nation’s vehicle’
and with little kaiser-bias as garnish. XD
Of course, flanking works for them. just… Garford-Beute doesn’t need to face A7V and doesn’t need to flank and just can pen frontal armor of St-chamond. :/
Can’t wait to see Garford-beute fly and dogfight with SPAD
while Gaijin buffs Chamond even more, ‘only where it doesn’t need it’ but no armor improvement.
I really want to see, and I believe that historical frontal armor improvement is better than a ‘silly maximum speed buff’
i mean all the vehicles are running x2 speed. and the MK4&5 male are running x0.2 cross country capability. Im quite annoyed that the worst tank of ww1 is the best ww1 tank in WT right now
