SPYDER - General Discussion

Lol fr?
I have a book of elta and iai that showed and said it clearly can take p4

Mind sending it? Both the SPYDER Python 4 and the Python 4/5 differences (aside from seeker), as from what I know it’s still the same, just with minimal airframe changes that don’t impact anything

Oh man its on my grandpa house and i just was there the entire week
Well i will try to remeber to send it when i will be there next week

Matter of fact, I still have the older official Rafael Python 5 brochures, which I found in archives, and it states this

As I already said, there are no changes aside from seeker, which includes all these systems

After looking through the entire PDF archive of Rafael, I’ve finally found the I-Derby brochure

This took me like 3-4 hours, and apperantly I already had the PDF installed from who knows damn where

Man I feel lobotomised after this, discovering things I’ve never heard of

Anyway, it says SPYDER-SR can carry it

Will help the SPYDER a good amount due to better seeker

Its well known and confirmed that p5 is based on p4 but it has some upgraded to the airframe to have less drag less weight and also thrust adjusting
Both of thos give it more speed and range and even bvr capability as it stated in the rafael site
P4 can go over 15km and cant bvr cuz it has a lot of drag

Also some places says it can pull more as well

Once again, nothing about this is mentioned in Rafael brochures. Thrust management does not affect range, just it’s speed. BVR is also much higher than 20km, so either that’s an error or just under certain weather, were it can drop to such range.

Anyway, about the SPYDER-SR range, Rafael did update their older brochures, where it first was 15km, then over 15km and then 20km. The 20km version could be the “newer” one, as if its launched from a ground target, it will have shorter range compared to air launched ones due to it not having additional speed before launch, so it could be a modern version that has some sort of extra booster that is only found there (Extended range Pythons do exist for other SPYDER variants), but that’s just a speculation of mine.

Posting sources before making claims would be appreciated

SPYDER-SR firing process. The missile fired is a I-Derby according to Rafael

20km+
Imo p5 can go over 40km and iaf just hide it but there is no proof for that
But iaf did said it can bvr so…

Yea might be it
Can be very cool

BVR is 10km or more range

Well its 20km+

Hi man
Here it is a spyder with p4

this book was a gift from iai to their employees so safe to say its true

Basing on floating google spreadsheet with missile datamine:

Python 4 has identical weight and similar-ish motor to Type 81 (Japan SPAA) missiles, but lacks TV/contrast seeker option nor it have extended IR lock range of a Stinger/MIM72G seeker. It does have Stinger-like flare rejection of combined gatewidth and tracking suspension. Difference boils down to air drag values which are unknown to me.

So ye, P4 armed Spyder would be just step up from Chaparral and definitely not “top tier capable” SPAA/SAM system.

In game you already can throw 9L as far as 20-25km in head on with sufficiently good launch conditions, thus any range statements without launch conditions context needs to be taken with one wheelbarrow of salt.

Ahh not rly dude i never saw aim9 go more then 10km

It doesn’t have to go 10km when the enemy is travelling towards you
