SPYDER - General Discussion

Waiting for the Python 5 and Derby rework, hopefully the Python 5 seeker gets updated and ignores the DIRCMs as it technically should.
I still don’t get it how it doesn’t have DL, it should be a logical thing to the latest IIR missiles.

There is no primary source stating It has it.

In the SPYDER system, the Python 5 is fired from vertical or slanted canisters. It is launched “blind” towards targets detected by a separate Command and Control Unit (CCU) radar.
For a vertically launched short-range IR missile to intercept a target kilometers away before its seeker can lock on, the ground radar must transmit mid-course command guidance. Because the Python 5 successfully operates in this “Fire-and-Update” mode within the SPYDER ecosystem, it logically possesses the hardware and software interface required to process a mid-course radio datalink.

Also there’s many sources that state it has LOAL, FOG, which technically requires an initial and continuously updated set of target coordinates.

Gaijin has done alot of artificial buffs and nerfs on vehicles, i don’t see why gaijin can’t understand the information given and atleast make the Python 5’s seeker better and functional as it should be.

I don’t know if anyone else will understand what I’m trying to say, but I can just about accept the argument that just because there’s no documentation, it doesn’t mean a data link exists in the game. But the fact that the Python 5MR can fly as far as 40 km without a data link is just laughable.

You dont need DL for blind launch, pre launch data and IOG is enough.
Modern missiles have lock ranges in few to tens of km, so thats that.
Without any source ditectly stating DL, it wont get it.

Common sense does not work here. Sources or nothing, and even then, you need some luck…

Damn it. Israel needs to hurry up and develop Python 6 or 7 and Skysting (IR), and declassify Python 5.

I’m sorry, what?

I’d like to know for sure whether the Seeker has a data link or a similar feature.

DataLink functionality usually gets included in Rafael’s brochure, like it does on the Derby iirc. Don’t know why, but it does make sense to me that the Python 5 does not have Datalink IRL. It doesn’t need it, its a dogfight missile. The blind launch feature is there as a last resort, which will never happen in combat since all IAF Fighter jets are equipped with ARH Missiles, most commonly the Aim-120.

That should be the case, but the existence of Python 5MR keeps popping into my head.

It was made to be bvr missile and ground missile too btw
How bvr without dl?
Also the seeker should move and search the target and since gaijin didnt implemented it the p5 is missing constantly so until then it should have dl anyway

The SPYDER still needs its radar fixed, the Ability to lock and fire Python 5s with the toplite while the radar is off, the Python itself desperately needs a Flight model update as it still wobbles horribly causing it to lose lock and bleed all of its airspeed, and the vehicle itself for some reason has no DL channels listed.
