SPYDER - General Discussion

And they do have quite a bit different code to it, with time after launch, time to impact or minimal speed being the triggers for second pulse to ignite, the way I understand it?

       "propulsionAutopilot": {
        "propulsionActivation0": {},
        "propulsionActivation1": {
          "startTimeMin": 4.0,
          "timeToHitMin": 5.0,
          "velocityMin": 350.0
        }

Propulsion also is bit stronger, by about 10% (101661N vs 110450N for the ER), missile itself of only 4kg heavier. Propellant potency seems to be marginally better as well (2323,7N/kg vs 2350N/kg). Reduced air drag (dragCx) from 0.018 to 0.014 also might help with energy retention?

Just test, missile still struggle to hit target beyond 10km. I was expecting mach 1 at 20km. Right now its only got 500m more range than derby SR.

So far it looks like 120C5 and now D all over again. Missile modelling doesn’t meet hype and expectation.

Which is especially sad for AMRAAMs, as WPU 16B motor is actually known and decently well modeled.

it is better than sr?

SR is better 0-5km and ER is better 5-10km. Both missile effective range is <10km.

It is should be better than buk missile. I hope they will. fix it

It should have the same maximum range as IRIS SLM as both missile have 40km range irl.

er has dual pulse, why it is worse than buk missile kinda bug

Missile is only 4kg heavier most of which went into propellant, unless you put wardrobe to Narnia there, amount of propellant you’re going to fit into the motor will be limited

You’re comparing a 500kg missile with thrust vectoring to a 100 kg one with no thrust vectoring

Stunner is 400kg does not have thrust vectoring, is it worst than buk missile? def no. I dont think these two parameters are that important.

How can you be so sure when there is barely any official info of the Stunner. All that is stated is “high manoeuvrability” and that it has a advanced seeker, but nothing specific. What are your sources? Or are they just assumptions? As the 400kg figure was also never officially stated.

Also the Stunner has no proximity fuze at all, so it would be terrible in game.

Most modern interceptor missiles have similar level of classification. All we can do is believe the stats which are publicly available and some reasonable estimates. Stunner publicly available source shown the missile have 300km range, IIR and AESA MMW radar, 3 way datalink, 3 pulse motor, speed of mach 7.5. This is enough to determine stunner is better than buk.
I apologise my mention of 400kg weight, as I didn’t verify the source (it’s from website army recognition, yes I understand it’s not a reliable source). Still, a stunner is much smaller than a buk missile which is reasonable to assume stunner is much lighter than buk. Which suggest stunner is <500kg.

Also effectiveness of hit to kill is up to gaijin honestly, consider the new pantsir smsv (close to hit to kill).

I suppose trying to repeat Diehl/IRIS-T SL stunt and asking Rafael what they can share about Derbys wouldn’t hurt? Though native speaker may or may not look bit more credible than typical nigerian snail prince scam mail.

Spyder is going to make me have an stroke

Did that produce any results, I never saw the outcome

Guy certainly got a response with some specs that I presume were A-okay to go public, then got questioned in return if he can provide high resolution WT wallpaper of IRIS-T systems, as it impressed Diehl team.

Now whether values provided helped Gaijin, I dunno, but certainly IRIS-T SL saw quite massive buff to missile range during Dev cycle then?

Seems like the spyder radar gets more faster target updates on the dev
Though am more interested on what they are going to do with the derby er

Fun how Russia’s new AA has the 90-degree scan that can look straight up, while SPYDER with proof can’t because it’s somehow physically impossible.
