SPYDER - General Discussion

Hi man
Here it is a spyder with p4

this book was a gift from iai to their employees so safe to say its true

Basing on floating google spreadsheet with missile datamine:

Python 4 has identical weight and similar-ish motor to Type 81 (Japan SPAA) missiles, but lacks TV/contrast seeker option nor it have extended IR lock range of a Stinger/MIM72G seeker. It does have Stinger-like flare rejection of combined gatewidth and tracking suspension. Difference boils down to air drag values which are unknown to me.

So ye, P4 armed Spyder would be just step up from Chaparral and definitely not “top tier capable” SPAA/SAM system.

In game you already can throw 9L as far as 20-25km in head on with sufficiently good launch conditions, thus any range statements without launch conditions context needs to be taken with one wheelbarrow of salt.

Ahh not rly dude i never saw aim9 go more then 10km

It doesn’t have to go 10km when the enemy is travelling towards you

When missile range is mentioned its not how far the target is in head on
Its how much the missile can travel from the moment of lunch until it falls

wait so if they add the SPYDER with iderby and python 4, is there also a slight chance the F15I and the F16D can carry Python 4 or I-derby?

The first version of the spyder probably would have normal derby not i derby
For p4 it depends on balance cuz other nation needs equivlants

Going by radar range estimates, which usually are “good enough”, with sufficiently good launch conditions 9L/9M can travel 20km+ against notching target ie doesn’t close nor extend distance.

Now whether seeker detects anything that far is another matter, but if missile had datalink and LOAL capability, it should hit.

Ahh u are in such perfect condition in that case p4 might have 30+km
This is not the condition ppl test missiles on

I don’t think there is “standardized” methodology to measure missile ranges to begin with and certainly isn’t it used in various articles/websites.

I-Derby, no
But yes, it is very likely that they will get the Python 4

Given how short No Escape Zone is on current Derbys even when launched from supersonic jet, I-Derbys aren’t all that outlandish idea for surface launched missile.

I-Derby is kinematically very similar to the Derby
I-Derby is primarily an electronics upgrade

Also we were talking about planes not the Spyder

To be on exact same page, are we talking about “I Derby ER”, as I can’t find anything about just “I Derby”?

I-Derby is a Derby with a much better seeker, should be able to ignore chaff and other distractions much more. It is the I-Derby ER but without the booster

Also, planes can carry it, as the brochure shows

I see. Still, my idea was to put Derby ER (is there non-I Derby ER in first place?) on ground launchers as Israeli top tier SPAA/SAM system, given not the best reach on existing Derbys. Alternatively “SPYDER SR” with regular Derbys and then “SPYDER MR” with Derbys ER.

As for I-Derby on aviation… if “improved seeker” would be modeled akin MICAs already in game ie narrower notch angles, that might kinda-sorta work? But on what it would be put on, as Israeli aviation is almost done unless Snail entertains copypasting current jets just to put new missiles on them, while I-Derby ER is still an option. Or I-Derby will be relegated to some premium/event jet, while F-16I or F-15IA will go straight for ER.

nope
Derby Mk.I = Regular Derby
Derby Mk.II = I-Derby
Derby Mk.III = I-Derby ER

I. Need. This. I am losing my mind playing top-tier Israel with little to nothing I can do against CAS. Israel would be great as a ground-only nation, but the lack of SPAA makes me want to throw my keyboard through my monitor.

Same, we’ll probably have to wait till June at least to get the SPYDER or anything better than the Chaparral/Machbet. I get bombed continuously by (Russian) CAS, APS is a joke and the only thing I can bring out that doesn’t cost 500/600 SP is a SPAA with 6 Km range or a helicopter with the same range (I bring out the helicopter, at least it flies). I’m gonna cry, haha.
