huh… weird.
We can ask someone about it, maybe it was “fixed” (I know it’s still ass) and they didn’t include it on any changelog.

i decided to ask smin, waiting for a response, you can try and go support it if you want
I’m not even gonna bother
P5 is still not finished, it’s missing dual pulse and is probably artificially nerfed
Soon it may be fixed when other dual pulse missiles are added
You got a source for it being dual pulse? This is the first I’ve heard of that, no clue where you got that from. Other than a source or two saying it can have 80 second sustainer, but it’s nothing concrete and I bet it’s variable thrust control likely at play here which isn’t a thing ingame yet.
The only things holding it back are the possible lack of datalink and inferior tracking capabilities it has ingame. It may also suffer from not pulling hard/tight enough off the rail.
It’s supposedly been fixed for some time. Anyone wanna give it a few tests?
the last part idk, Magics 2 pull very hard off the rail IRL, considering Python 5 is a much more modern missile and has the purpose to have high maneuverability, i wouldnt expect less
this just seems impossible without a ramjet
That’s the conclusion I’ve come to, and other users who’ve come across it and dug into it believe it’s just a repeated misconception.
tested it today, nothing changed like at all
Doesn’t have datalink
It’s most likely dual pulse instead of variable thrust since it’s usually quite inefficient
I was trying to find source about dual pulse, sadly I find source saying it doesn’t have dual pulse.
In Rafael python 5 vids, they mention “two-stage rocket motor”. Which basically means dual stage/thrust rather than dual pulse.
We’ve seen in mentioned in loose sourcing time and time again, which is why I said it’s “possible”. We have nothing concrete ofc, and given its age it’s unlikely realistically.
It has the exact same motor/propulsion as the Python 4, and there’s no way the Python 4 has that. Gonna need to see some sourcing (which surbaisse could prob counter with his own sources I reckon). It should be two stage like most other missiles, being booster/sustainer propelled, anything stating otherwise is wrong.
surbaisse is a monster when it comes to sources bro dont even challenge him
If Rafael has no issues listing datalink for Derby ER missiles as feature in their public brochure, but they don’t list it on Python 5 one, then odds are it is simply not present on the missile.
Very likely.
However, one thing of concern to me is the Python 5-MR. It’s used on SPYDER-MR/LR systems and has ~40km of range, it’s just a Python 5 with a booster on it. I don’t expect a ground launched missile without datalink to be able to obtain a lock after the time spent traveling ~25km. If it doesn’t have datalink that’s quite concerning for it and a bit sad lmao
It is most likely assumtpions since the missile is marketed as having LOAL
Tbh just bring it in a couple games and see how it goes
still wobbles
impossible, they dont add things and artificially nerf them, you know, to quote someone
