How does the spotting system work? I would have thought that if I’d seen an enemy tank it’d come up as spotted on the map but I seem to only spot a random even though I know its not random.
Light tanks get access to a “spotting ability” where you can mark enemy tanks both on the map and on peoples HUDs. All other vehicles can only show enemy tanks from shooting them
Some additional info that’s been presented above is marking the map, where the enemy is. All vehicle types can do this, and it functions differently than scouting.
You can do this by clicking your keybind for map, entering the map, and clicking on the location where you think the enemy is (an alternate method is to press and hold ALT button and moving your mouse cursor over to the ingame map and marking). This will just put a temporary marker on the map for your entire team.
You should also have the following keybind set if your playing in a squad. Under Controls/Common - look for "Set target for Squad). It allows you to point and mark a location on the map that only you and your squadron can see. Good also for marking targets from the air for yourself.
If you see an enemy, to “scout” it, you need to click on it to highlight it and push the button it tells you on the bottom of your screen for scouting. For me, I click and then press “V”.
And yes, once an enemy has been scouted, it stays visible on the map for longer and thier map marker will not disapear as soon as they round a corner of a building.
Good scouting from a team can be the difference between winning and losing. 2 good spotters would stop any enemy team from creeping up en-masse. That’s also the only time when sit back pot shotters become any use, they NEED spotters (scouts). Without spotters, sit back pot shotters are dead weight.
(sit back pot shotters are not the same as team playing strategic snipers, who know how to snipe and then move, but can still position so they can SEE to be able to cover team mates and zones)
