Sparrows lobotomised after the leviathans update

After the update i noticed that sparrows (aim 7f/m) no longer give a shit about what target you’re locking on to and sometimes seem to lock on to chaff or nothingness while you are holding a lock on the target(without the target notching). From my experience they work like 33% of the time and like to miss their targets last second, even when they aren’t manevuering.

In my experience, Sparrows have been like this forever

I had a match on Thursday and I was playing the F-18A, fired an AIM-7F at an enemy, it immediately beelined at an an enemy F-111, got confused by chaff, and then proxied a teammate. Mind you, the F-111 wasn’t in the area the Sparrow should’ve been seeing

I think the reason why is because Sparrows are scanning the whole area in flight rather than locking the person and the aircraft that launched it is just there for moral support and to point at where it should be

Either way, Sparrows desperately need to be fixed, but I feel like it’s a radar issue and not a Sparrow issue

The AIM-7Ms on the F-2A seem to track and hit more consistently than on the F-16C or F-18A

yeah sparrows always did that, they even used to go perfectly vertical either up or down instead of following a target

I get what you’re coming from, sparrow was always quite wonky, however i never had a situation where it would go for a target 22 kms away, so i feel like whatever was wrong with them really intensified after the update. Also could be me just having terrible luck after the update tho

1- Bad launch, got notched.
2- Bad launch, likely got notched.
3- Okay launch, got notched.
4- Bad launch, the target kinetically defeated the missile.

In every instance the enemy player just correctly defeated a radar missile.
You could name this “R-27ER” and it’d still be the same conclusion.

All semi active radar missiles in the game will be defeated by notching, and each one has kinetic defeat solutions.

the first shot got notched

the second shot went for the mig21 since the mirage went out of sight (why the mig21 still got illuminated is a mystery, but this actually happens with every sarh missile)

it looks like 4 didn’t even track tbh, i dont think that a sparrow could be kinematically dodged at that range with a single turn, also by turning into me not away untill after the missile has flown by. Also in clip 3 it wasn’t a full notch (because my radar wasn’t notched) so do sparrows get a larger notch gate?

also i have this clip

How does that look in sensor view in the replay? Both of those should have clearly hit.

not entirely sure, but it could be that the target got filtered out?

very little acceleration compared to you
can you link a replay? would probably answer that

now that i look at it again it looks like the same happened in this case

here is the developers explanation ive found

Unfortunately for some reason i haven’t saved the replay, but it looks like they just lost track at the last second for no reason. Also I dont think that low closure is a problem since the “notch gate” (the speed filter) is set relative to the ground and not the speed of launching aircraft (which is displayed next to the target box)
