I’ve never used the Tor, but the HQ-17 instead and it’s probably close enough.
As far as evasion goes, most RWRs you’ll encounter are fully able to identify any action you are taking, including firing from IRST since the missile still needs to receive commands, you won’t ever get a fully stealth launch.
The reality of SACLOS AA is that if your target isn’t a little cooperative you’ll never kill them.
That said, the Tor is still looking fairly capable, and that brings us to the management screen.
When you target from the management screen, the parasite movements from your mouse are smoothed out of the guidance giving you far more reliable tracking.
As far as operating from the command screen, you can simply click directly on any command line at the bottom of the screen instead of relying on the shortcuts since they might be different from your actual keys assigned to the actions. In my case, I use LMB to fire usually, but in the control screen it’s RMB.
On the right you have your target list, and at the top right of that window you can choose what to filter out of your radar so as to not clutter it out. Annoyingly, you have to do it at the start of every match.
You can also sort your targets by different parameters such as distance, height, or speed by clicking on the corresponding letter at the top of the target list.
For the targeting mode, keeping it on “Auto” or “LOS” is indeed generally good enough since “Lead” is to be exclusively used on targets that are fast and keep a consistent heading, AFK people if you will.
Both the Tor and HQ-17 are theoretically capable of simultaneously engaging two targets, but in practice it’s so finnicky that I’ve never gotten it to work reliably.
Also some high tier AA radars are currently barely working, I know for sure it affects both the HQ-17 and Pantsir, the Tor might be okay since it’s not a PESA, but it’s good to keep in mind.
All in all, AA duty is an unrewarding acquired taste, with to my knowledge almost no ressources to learn from. If you’re not in it for specific reasons, and just want to defend your team, CAP is the way to go.
