They changed how her ammo is loaded. It has 2 rings of ammo and if you run only 50% ammo, it loads bottom up. and so the top ring which was super vulnerable isnt any more. (before it loaded top down)
I think there were some other changes, but that was a big one that I know @SPANISH_AVENGER was very happy about
Nothing seems to have gotten better FCS. Vanguard is a C&P of Hood. Which is annoying
Her ammo loading is like Alaska so completely able to empty shell room above waterline and magazine around waterline. It maximizes as they give best waterline Iowa could get.
Also, thanks to spaced armour finally introduced to naval at this update, Iowa’s main belt protection is at best it could, about 480 mm RHAe. Superior than Soyuz in pure armor effectiveness sides.
It also has better maneuverability, not only on speed side but also on turning ability. Plus additional hydroplane(which excels Soviet KOR-1 in great margin), and better AA.
Currently the advantage of Soyuz over Iowa comes from stock SAP and invincible bow, but other than that, Iowa is just same or better than Soyuz
(I don’t think large filler and faster velocity as pure advantage as now larger filler doesn’t always mean higher damage, and fast shell velocity brings both pros and cons)
To me, pros and cons each other. Penetration is almost same, fuze time is same, difference comes from filler and velocity.
As expected, it becomes Rotten Tomato. Shell room in barbette that cannot be emptied(shell room on hull emptied first), magazine near waterline, and cheek makes her unable to angle even against 7.7 or 8.0 battleships.
Obviously, American shells have been suffering unfair treatment all along. GAIJIN refused to believe that the American armor-piercing shells had stronger capabilities, as has been the case since the T33 used on tanks.
Seriously, I wouldve been fine if they added it in 6 mo ths or so together with the h class or something, now it just steals the show for the genuine legends
Italy had a SPAA gap at top tier for years at this point
France lacks MBTs around br 10
Germany and the UK also had limited options for top tier air a few years back
Russia, who never made a comparable battleship to other naval powers in the WW2 era, could also get a gap here.
Take the Tornado situation from a few years back : all trees were told to wait while the US and Russia received many aircrafts added, but strangely enough, when the situation is reversed, it doesn’t apply.
An argument could be made to plug those holes for balance reasons, and to be fair that’s what gaijin has been doing, but in this case you shouldn’t give something that is absolute fantasy and outshines every actually made Battleships of the era.
Regarding Iowa, it will certainly be a good ship, but the armor is no where near as effective, and can actually be penned by its peers
If it were for me, all unfinished battleships would be removed, although to be fair i’m not too sure what exact models you are referring to here
SAMP/T is not guaranteed to come, but i won’t go into to much details, would be too much off topic to discuss here
France has prototypes Leclercs, Gaijin just kind of forgot about those until now
Italy got its last top tier SPAA added… what, 4 years ago ? Surely the soviets can wait the same amount of time until we reach missile ships ?
It goes without saying, should that even be mentionned ?
Breaking news though : 320mm angled will be far easier to pen than 400mm angled, especially considering the ridiculous amount of plates in the nose of Soyuz. Let’s not even mention Yamato who can’t angle because it will suffer from the “Tiger P” syndrome
Maybe shorter reload, as current reload time of 29 seconds is with barrel moving time, while Yamato aren’t.
25 seconds has forwarded to developers, but for balance reason they won’t implement it.
Iowa’s belt as it was currently modelled had a 38+307mm plate. It had no spaced armor behind, but maybe it changed in the later iterations
If my maths are still mathing correctly, 345 is still less than 420
i won’t even mention the front bulkhead, with a nice amount of angled plates before you reach the main bulkhead on Soyuz, while it’s pretty naked on Iowa (and most ships introduced this update)
As for the Roma, i didn’t check the armor, but even if that were true, isn’t its reload abysmal currently ?
It has in both first and second dev server, that’s why developers metioned it on the devblog. It’s protection is actually about 480 mm RHAe ingame, which is cannot achievable without space armour for such 307 and 38 mm plates.
