Sons of Attila - Rumor Round-Up and Discussion (Part 2)

Gr7 , F16C, AV8B+

f16c, barrat, f14b , av8b i think, british harrier thats it propably

Dang, that’s a shame it’s not coming to Tornado F.3

To be honest, until AMRAAM, had best not add 9M. Both are needed otherwise they’ll whack our BR up without having the right BVR for the bracket. SkyTrash is barely good enough for 11.3. 9M would probably mean we’d end up at 12. I just hope the Gr7 doesnt get whack up into obscurity

What did the f14b get?

Aye you’re probably right
I think this is a good change for Gr7 honestly. It can now reach out and kill more effectively and has a fuckload of flares to match

I do have some concerns. I think it would have been better to leave it alone and just add the Gr9 for Aim-9M. If its BR increases, there is going ot be little gap between Gr7 and Gr9 and thus not a huge amount of reason to continue to use both. But as long as its BR doesnt sky-rocket (mainly looking at SB with its 11.0 rating) then yeah, should be fun. Hopefully back to the days when the aircraft was first added and I’d steam roll everything

It never had AIM9M in real life either

I don’t think its BR will increase by much if at all. As a subsonic, it’s pretty niche in top tier

But is British. So… you never know Though Im just really hoping that the new RWR actually works in Cockpit. It didnt last week, I dont know if its been updated yet

Operation Granby F.3’s apparently did.

iirc it was a placeholder for ASRAAM

It did run Aim-9M, but was stopped after Iraq because the British mods of the rails broke the missiles and it was easier to just stick with 9L.

This document details the Operation Granby AIM-9M in RAF Tornado F.3 service:
https://www.raf.mod.uk/our-organisation/units/air-historical-branch/post-coldwar-studies/tornado-f3-operations/

“the UK ordered a total of 320 AIM-9Ms for Operation Granby at a cost
of £19.3 million”
“The F3 detachment was initially compelled to reload the AIM-9Ls, although
9Ms were later carried on de-modified launchers”

They didn’t seem to like them due to technical issues with the launch rails:
“the AIM-9M fell well
short of our expectations and the future of AIM-9M in RAF service is being reviewed”

The RAF did operate the AIM-9M but it fell short of what the Americans had advertised to them, and required further modifications to achieve their advertised claims. The British decided the AIM-9M was not really that much worth it and pursued ASRAAM instead.

They also liked their De-Chirped rails :P

and I think they ended up breaking somehting like 100 of those Aim-9M

The fact that Tornado did carry AIM-9M though means it’s future loadout could definitely be AIM-9M + AIM-120
Not sure what block AIM-120 they’d give it, but it’d actually be a good jet then (maybe) lmao

I doubt they’ll give it anything better than anyone else is running and I doubt they’ll add better the Aim-120B from the start

This was in game before, and was there from the 1st implementation of the new voice lines but the radar lock (ship) and missile voice line are new.

Well, AIM-120A vs AIM-120B is the same missile, only has some software for loading data more easily if I remember right. Range and Gs will be the same

C was an improvement to lethality and range

Yeah, exactly. I doubt we’ll get C
