(SOLVED) Warthunder Black Screen-Crashes My Computer - RX6700XT

SOLUTION:

  1. Use Direct3D 11 + TAA Anti-Aliasing. This will greatly increase the stability - this isn’t the main culprit though.
  2. Remove AMD Adrenaline Software (prefferably with DDU, complete tutorials are on YT), reinstall the software, BUT choose “Drivers Only” installation of the software. This seems to fix these crashes for good, albeit you lose the software…it’s a tradeoff you need to live with.

(PLEASE READ COMPLETELY) (PC SPECS AT THE END)

When playing WarThunder on my RX6700XT 12GB, the computer just black screens and fans go full speed. Only way to get the PC to turn off from this, is to hold the power button down for 5 secs. This happens even in test drive, usually randomly and after some time (5-10 minutes of driving around). It does this very rarely when flying, which is weird. On my previous GPU, RX560 4GB, this never happened, even when putting alot of stress on this poor old GPU. When this crash happens and i boot up the PC, the Adrenaline software reports an “unexpected system failure”. I tried WarThunder with multiple graphics settings, very low settings + DirectX 11 resolved the crashes, but they defeat the purpose of a new GPU, if the old one ran the game on higher settings and quite well.

Same thing happens in only one other game - Sprocket. Other, arguably much more demanding games, don’t do this. Great example is Gray Zone Warfare never crashing (even though it maxes out the GPU and CPU).

Wonder what could be causing it? The computer is on fresh installed Windows 10 (on a completely new, clean SSD) and most recent AMD Adrenalin drivers, they cannot be corrupted, as there are no previous drivers there. BIOS is also a new install, a correct, most recent version.
I don’t overclock the GPU, the temps are fine, the GPU temp is 65-70’C while the hotspot stays just under 80’C, or rarely, slightly over. The CPU is never maxed out, it stays under 75’C and also isn’t overclocked. My 16GBs of RAM show SYSTEM MEM UTIL in the 12-13GB area.

To be honest, i had these crashes much more frequently on my old PSU and CPU (VS650, R5 2600), they happened in all games, instead of select few as they do now. I figured it must be the weak PSU, so i upgraded it and went with a new CPU and system SSD along with it. But, here we are, turns out the issues weren’t resolved, which is a pity. The GPU is still in warranty, i’m seriously considering just returning it and buying an Nvidia instead, since they’re much more stable than AMDs. If anyone knows about this more than I do, please help.
Other than that, have a great day, whoever finished reading this.

Full PC specs:
Motherboard - B-450M-Pro
PSU - Corsair RM750x
CPU - Ryzen 5 5600XT
GPU - Asus Dual Radeon RX-6700XT 12GB (bought used, from a reputable, big electronics retailer from my country I never had problems with)
RAM - 16GB DDR4, 2400MHz Corsair
SSD - APACER AS350 Panther

Nvidia’s recent drivers have gone to absolute shit though. It’s clear they are using AI to help make them. Every other one just breaks my system. I have a 3070 and have stopped updating drivers and tried to go back as far as it would let me. Sadly these are not good times for PC gaming.

Oh, that’s…lovely. I’m the kind of person that considered buying an Intel ARC for some time, but never did. Although many titles now support it really well, so it may be back as an option on the table.
AMD offers amazing price/performance ratio, but the drivers are just stinky. Damn, i wish we could go back 5 years and stop Ai from happening.

Just curious about something since I had same thing happen to me
Are your menu FPS limited or unlimited?

In my case, latest update forced unlimited FPS in menu and made my GPU struggle (but it pushed over 1300FPS on loading screen before it shut down)

On third try I managed to get in game and go to settings to enforce 60 FPS in menus
So far, no chrashes

EDIT: I suspect this might be culprit but your mileage may vary

It is indeed set to unlimited, i had it set to 144FPS max before the update. BUT, this is not the issue. I had these crashes going a while back, so not exclusive to this update or FPS limits.

a very similar thing has been happening to me too, but it happens whatever i do on the game, even if im not playing a server. and i am on a laptop with AMD radeon graphics. (i dont know much about PCs/laptops) but it has certainly been frustrating as the game will not work

If you have Direct3D 12 (beta) enabled, try changing down to Direct3D 11 instead. It should greatly increase the stability of your game. You’ll find it in Graphics - Display - Graphics *API. The game has Direct3D 12 (beta) enabled on default, and it’s terrible.
