solid shot has been really inconsistent for the 2 years i’ve been playing, gijian should try to fix solid shot and make it more consistent so that the nations that use it ( mostly Britain ) don’t have to suffer when there churchill either hits a tiger and bounces off a 60 degree angle or pens but does absolutely no damage
Yes I agree getting no damage on your shots is terrible. My proposal for more consistency would be this:
It would solve most of the problems and finally make AP viable again.
The death zone should detonate ammo too of course.
There seems to be modeling for the spall but none for the shot inside the tank itself
The one thing that i noticed is that solid shot has 2 different spall models.
Tanks who dont have stock solid shot, who unlock other shells, have the bad spall model.
A good example for this, are the americans. USA 75mmn Atrocious stock shell. Usa 76mm. Atrocious stock shell. Amx 13 75. Atrocious stock shell. British 2 pounder. Atrocious stock shell.
However. Once you unlock the next shell, its almost toxic how much of an improvement it is. Especially with the latest aphe changes, that makes aphe even better. Or the british 2 pounder. It has a selection of 4 solid AP shells. The first 3, its almost as if spalling was never implemented. But once you unlock the best solid shot, suddenly, the gun almost seems OP.
On the other side, we have tanks, that get only one shell, and one shell only. Usa T34. This shell has no problems spalling and 1 shotting everything it touches. France arl-44. Only has one stock shell. Has no issue 1 shotting panthers and tigers. CA lorraine. Same story. Amx 50’s. Lorraines. All tanks with a stock and only 1 solid ap shell, performing so good.
Yet everything that doesnt have a stock 1 shell option, suffer through a horrible grind. American 90mm stock grind. Solid AP. Unable to achieve anything.
Time to fully implement that APHE change. Bring things closer to realism and each other
I don’t see the correlation between turret basket and shells not spalling and/or the commander absorbind every fragment of the 1st shot with his meat but ok?
The problem isnt internal components, it’s the fact that when a penetration occurs the spalling is minimal and the round itself seems to dissapear into thin air.
also, spalling should ricochet inside the tank, not embed themselves on the other wall in a single motion.
I would understand minimal spalling if it was a light tank but the Panther F turret is 60mm on the sides and rear so it has plenty of material to spall and kill the entire turret crew in a single shot.
The argument I’m making is that devs claimed that they’re adding more internal components because “they don’t want to punish players for doing the right play and not doing enough damage.”
However, despite this they leave solid shot in an abysmal state where direct hits sometimes only turn crew orange (see: conqueror APDS rant I made earlier in one of these threads), and slight off-center shots that fly by the crewman’s head do almost no damage at all.
Basically, I am trying to call out the hypocrisy of the argument made - “We must ensure a center-of-mass, unaimed shot to the side of a tank deals crippling damage that wins the fight” and yet, shooting a panther repeatedly in the back of its turret after a successful flank && aiming for crewmen … does basically nothing.
oh yeah, indeed, I was just wondering what it had to do with that lol.
I was laughing like a maniac losing my sanity after the shots only managed to turn a couple crew members yellow lol…
1 shot ok, but multiple good shots doing basically nothing is clownesque AF! XD
The funniest thing is if I had M61 APHE unlocked the 1st shot would probably killed the panther without needing all the others.
Imagine if you did all that, and then died.
Britain before 17 pounder is suffering, and even with 17 pounder that panther moment is not unfamiliar.
But
never forget…

From our perspective, we want to avoid penalizing the player who managed to land a shot on the enemy first, reducing those frustrating moments of penetrating a vehicle without doing any meaningful damage — even though the round passed through a significant amount of the interior.

Well yeah my team was getting slaughtered, I myself died due to a bounce of a shot on the top of the cannon on a VK 3002 lol, the round dissapeared after touching the barrel…
Then I got killed by CAS, because what would be a game without at least 1 cas death.
So I spawned the EBR, Bounced 2 shots on an IS1 without penning then came back in spawn to help with the enemy team spawncamping…so yeah.
I know the EBR solid shot doesnt even have enough flat pen to pierce the IS1 anywhere, I know.
That would be terrible. APHE doesn’t need a nerf, solid shot needs a buff.
It’s not primarily about balance, it’s about realism, the same reason why we have one-shot-kill by crew lost feature. Tank crew did have a chance to bail out after a shot.
Gameplay > Realism
