So what mouse/keyboardjoystick/controller do you recommend for warthunder?

I am curious what players would recommend for hardware when it comes to War Thunder. For some time I have used a bog basic mouse and keyboard (nothing noteworthy) and I do pretty well but are there any hardware models or makes worth investing in, that players recommend?

Is it better to use a joystick over a controller set up for helis/aircraft? Are you able to switch between them?

Also what settings for mouse would you recommend? I sometimes find it very annoying that my mouse “skips” when trying to target something and usually that delay results in death or a miss.

I’d be interested to hear what players out there use.

Keyboard and mouse is good for ground, naval and air realistics. I would only suggest buying joystick if u really enjoy playing air simulator. And settings for mouse, you just gotta experiment on your own till you find the best controls you like

Really depends where you play, a regular 70% and gaming mouse setup works well for all, but if you play a lot of top tier you might want an 100% keyboard and a 12-key mouse, I’ll link some good options on a moment

Imo, do NOT play it on controller at all

This is what I started with, it’s pretty good but when it gets old it starts to feel veeerrryyy clunky, but quality for the price

You only really need your keyboard and mouse unless it comes to air simulator. I play it with keyboard and mouse, but that is only because my joystick isn’t a supported model. I choose the most similar model, and now I am unable to pull fully because the selected one has more room to pull.
Anyways, the point is that I only use mouse and keyboard for air sim because if I don’t then I’m nerfing myself.

I use a basic apple keyboard

i have never noticed any reason to get anything fancy.

As far as mouses go, I use a model O. A bit pricey, but it allows me to make very fine movements
Compared to to office mouse. The biggest thing I look for in a gaming mouse is if it has those side buttons,
Mouse button 5, 6… etc

The black ones on the side. I use them for squad markers, or rocket salvo firing. They make really accessible keybinds for me

12 button mouse like the g600 helps a lot because this game is really heavy on the keybinds, can bind 36 things to your thumb that otherwise does nothing with base keys and shift/alt modifiers.

Ultrawide monitor gives you a FoV advantage, and higher resolution monitors matter a lot more in this gsme compared to others since there a good amount of pixel hunting especially in ground battles.

I also have have 2 side buttons on my mouse. For ground, I only use 1 of them to just scout. On air settings, I use sets of keybinds: mb5 with additions for firing atgms, dropping guided bombs or firing aam. mb4 for weapon locks. Super useful when I need to quickly look a few enemies when I play cas

Alternatively, the Redragon M908 Impact is a cheaper option, specifically as a first one to get the feel of it

I was gonna buy a G600 but I was not willing to spend $70 on a mouse

Ya the clicks have a tendency to die early too and double click, the one I have now hasnt failed in 2 years but ive had to buy about 4 of them now in the past 6 or so years.

Ill probably try something new when this craps the bed, love 12 button mice though.

G600 has a 3rd click for your ring finger I really like, use that for free look here.

12 button mice are really nice cause they just shortcut your numpad so even without the mouse plugged in I can still use all those keybinds

I have a very weird keybind setup so the mouse works well for me, I also use it purely default cause I use it with an Xbox

Ive only had 3 mice so far and none of them have died, they’ve just been “retired” so to speak

I’ve used Red dragons as well, not this particular model but similar.

What DPI do you guys tend to run? And do you switch DPI at all?

Any Red Dragon Combo will do

Ive always just used 1600 dpi, in fps games like csgo I run a 12 inch 360, but in something faster like marvel rivals its probably around half that. I think theres benefits for running lower dpi in mostly solved games like csgo or valorant where you are holding angles all match, but in wt you are always looking around with 3rd person etc and it would become annoying fast.

In WT lower sens/dpi will help with pixel hunting weakspots at longer ranges like 800m+ but will make general gameplay more annoying, id just reccomend lower sens to as low as feels comfortable looking around with free cam. I think I run 15% sensitivity here with 1600dpi.

Depends, but I keep my DPI around 1600. I used to play at 6200 but that both got old and started screwing me over so I stopped
