Since the Sky Odyssey update, the mouse cursor in War Thunder has become absurdly huge when I run the game at 5120×2880.
Before this update, the exact same resolution and setup worked normally. The cursor size was fine. Nothing relevant changed on my side.
I run 5120×2880 on a 2560×1440 display intentionally. This is not a mistake, and lowering the resolution is not a solution.
I use 5120×2880 for two very specific reasons:
- War Thunder’s AA options are, frankly, terrible compared with brute-force supersampling/downsampling.
- The in-battle UI at lower resolutions is ridiculously oversized. Running the game at 5120×2880 gives me a much more reasonable HUD/UI scale.
Windows Accessibility settings have NEVER affected War Thunder’s cursor for me, in any previous version, and they still do not affect it now.
Windows DPI/scaling settings have NEVER affected War Thunder’s cursor for me, in any previous version, and they still do not affect it now.
Windows mouse pointer size has NEVER affected War Thunder’s cursor for me, in any previous version, and it still does not affect it now.
These are not settings I simply refuse to try. They have been tested before and they do not control War Thunder’s in-game cursor on my system.
Also:
- Lowering the game to 2560×1440 is not a solution.
- Using smaller fonts is not a solution. The in-battle UI is already too large at lower resolutions, which is one of the reasons I use 5120×2880 in the first place.
- Replacing 5120×2880 supersampling with TAA, DLSS, FSR, etc. is not a solution either.
The actual problem is extremely simple:
Before Sky Odyssey: 5120×2880 → normal mouse cursor.
After Sky Odyssey: 5120×2880 → gigantic mouse cursor.
Same machine.
Same display.
Same resolution strategy.
Same reason for using 5120×2880.
The update changed something.
I have attached a screenshot showing the current cursor size.
What I am looking for is an actual technical workaround, preferably something along these lines:
- a
config.blkparameter controlling cursor scale independently; - a hidden Dagor/UI scaling parameter;
- a
.blkoverride; - an editable UI configuration file;
- a way to restore the pre-Sky Odyssey cursor scale;
- or any other method that lets me keep 5120×2880, the current in-battle UI scale, and the supersampling quality while restoring the old cursor size.
If somebody has already investigated the new Sky Odyssey UI files, cursor definitions, Dagor parameters, or config variables, that is exactly the kind of information I am looking for.
This configuration worked correctly before Sky Odyssey. Sky Odyssey broke the cursor scaling.
I am trying to fix that specific regression, not redesign my entire setup around it.
If there is genuinely no user-side override anymore, then Gaijin needs to separate mouse cursor scaling from whatever render-resolution/UI scaling logic was changed in Sky Odyssey.
Because right now the game is taking a configuration that worked perfectly before the update and turning the mouse cursor into something that looks like it was designed for a television being operated from across the room.
