Sky Guard: F-106A “Six Shooter”

What’s the speed at 12.3km where the record was achieved?

image
This is the speed i reached after like 3 mins going flat

God i hope it gets the AIM-26. Cause i don’t feel like grinding the German tech tree just to try it :p

The AIM-26 was as far as we know only used for the HMD test, on an experimental plane with a single experimental pylon… probably because the missile was surplus to requirements because the 102s that could mount it were being phased out in 1970, rather than waste an AIM-4F, which the 106s needed and Hughes had stopped making years ago. There’s no reason to think that it was in any way a pylon arrangement that would have been useful under combat parameters.

But yes, agreed, it’s about as fake in that sense as the HMD was. After the 40mm Beaufighter set the standard that “vehicles that were only used to test things under highly controlled conditions” are acceptable combat aircraft, we’re in a horse-barn door scenario.

It’d be nice to be able to actually see the targets that you’re trying to shoot at, the gunsight doesn’t seem to be working correctly as is currently

What is the need (other than monetary to force the purchase of stars for GE if you lose a star) to make the event vehicle the last one to be unlocked? Before that, you could lose 1 or 2 and still be able to get the vehicle.

My brother in christ, the max speed of the Genie is 3.3 Mach, the range is is 6 miles, and the fuze is preset to go off on a time fuze after the entire rocket goes off, all so the aircraft that fired it has time to turn around and fly away before the explosion. The “lethality range” on wikipedia is probably referencing instant incineration of all matter. To put this into perspective for you. The warhead of that is basically the equivalent of a 3,748,000 pound tnt bomb. The largest bomb in the game right now has 14,000 pounds of tnt equivalent. That’s a bomb 268 times larger than the current max, with the range of 6 miles, and top speed of an SR-71. There is no possible way that this thing wouldn’t demolish every aircraft in a 1.5 mile radius of the blast’s shockwave at sea level at LEAST. The reason it’s a rocket is because having it aimed seemed arbitrary. What the Genie would do to the game, at 9.3 no less, would be catastrophic.

Nope, that’s what it looked like IRL. Believe it or not. It wasn’t even supposed to have a gun. That was retrofitted.

LOL, sounds like an easy instant ban/timeout for teamkilling your ENTIRE team 😂 I think they should add it to the game!!!

For real though, that thing should at LEAST be used for a fun/silly event. Doesn’t even have to be the April Fool’s event, but I WANT to blow up a furball at least once now 💥

Again, I am aware :)

Beyond 2 km, the shockwave would be significantly reduced from 5 psi to around 1 psi, making it unlikely to destroy an aircraft, perhaps only causing serious canopy damage. It’s not going to wipe everything on a large map like the conventional nuclear bomb used in ground modes.

I understand it would be overkill in ground battles, but I’d argue there are ways to limit its use, perhaps by locking the AIR-2A Genie behind a score requirement, similar to how nuclear bombers are earned. Maybe around 2,500 points could be required to use it. Again, the F-106A could also be balanced with a ground BR adjustment if it performs too well, and as always, it can be countered by SAMs and interceptors.

As for accidental teamkills, that’s ultimately the player’s responsibility, and they should be punished for careless use. Or, here’s a better proposal: remove the ability to teamkill entirely from realistic modes.

That’s exactly why I advocate for its addition; it’s such a wicked, fun, and unique weapon that I’d love to see it in-game someday. You’re always welcome to disagree or oppose its inclusion, of course.

It’s unguided so imagine GRB with it and launching a tactical nuke at a point lmao

Hell yeah! Especially, when most enemies are capping a point and using that funni fat rocket to deny their progress of capturing.

yall remember those short gifs or vids of someone modding a MIRV Fat Man in fallout to launch like 20x times the nukes its usually supposed to, launching them, and then game crashing because it was never supposed to process that many explosions in instant?

Kinda feel like Genie would take warthunder in this direction.

It’s a rocket made to shoot any potential Tu-4 Bomber squadrons with nukes from dropping them on the US. There is no proxy fuze, there is no impact fuze, it blows up a preset time after the rocket stops firing. It’s practically useless, except for trolling people in a fighter ball, which will have at least 3 allies in it.

It’s literally only good for trolling, and besides that, it’s absolutely broken op for any sucker that happens to be anywhere near it.

Duh, right?!

Useless? I offer you a different perspective of mine; it actually takes skill to make the rocket useful. You have to carefully aim and time your shot to get satisfying results. Launch too late, and you’ll miss your targets entirely. Launch too early, and the rocket slams into the ground with a broken fuzing mechanism, no detonation, no kills. If you mess up your timing and aim, it’s useless and not OP at all. That sounds like a fun challenge to me.

Unfortunately, trolling can never be completely prevented, even if teamkilling is removed. I’m fine with placing conditional restrictions on access to the AIR-2A Genie to minimize this kind of unwanted behavior.

Or they could actually model the gun sight fully
