History:

The PA-II Zelva

The Skoda PA-II “Zelva” or vz.23 is a Czechoslovakian armoured car based off the semi experimental PA-I with the blueprints made in the fall of 1923. The first batches of these armoured cars were completed during the summer of 1924 and entered service in November 1925.

The car wasn’t considered to be very impressive in Czechoslovakian service due to its sole armaments being maxim machine guns, meaning it would stay clear of vehicle to vehicle combat. It was also bulky, heavy and cramped for it’s crew. This lead to the car being mostly used by the police and in parades while the vz.27 armoured car would be used by the army instead.

3 cars were sold to the Austrian police in 1927 to compensate for not delivering a batch of vz.27s.

The Austrian cars would go on to combat the Nazi coup in 1934 while the Czechoslovakian cars would serve a uneventful career in the police. Late, some cars were seized by Germany and then used as radio vehicles all the way up to 1945 in spite of it’s limited capabilities.
