You should’ve gotten the event tomcat. Most pleasant aircraft to fly for me so far, I know it got put up against Typhoons and Rafales with the new set of BR changes but it may get R-73 to compensate.
The Economy past about Rank V/VI is basically designed for you to have either Premium time or a premium vehicle. Ideally both. You could try a Rank III premium, they are about £10 and give you both something to farm SLs in and something to grind the event in, Pick something good and it should be fairly easy

Spitfire LF MK IX is also a very good aircraft (at least it is on the British TT)
It’s a shame the AV-8A is removed from sale, that thing would print SLs for you.
Dont convert GE into SLs. Its just a scam.
I mean it’s a sabre so it’s pretty good at its BR and in down tiers. Usable in an uptier.
But like Morvran said there are other premiums like XP-50 and US Spitfire
